First game, not too bad
« on: September 18, 2017, 11:12:39 AM »
So I was planning on running the Killer Bee this season, I had fooled myself I could run it with the players I had, and I was horribly wrong. We got drilled in our first game.

So after looking at last weeks film, I knew we had to do something different. So I started looking at the play books I had and opened up the 63....and said to myself, "Self, these defenses are similar, and I think I have the horses to run this."

So I moved some boys around, showed them the new positions and installed stack mode only (doing Red this week). The results were pretty darn good. We gave up 3 long plays, 2 of them were really bad angles taken by the DE and the Corner, both were sweeps that resulted in scores. The other was a delayed handoff up the middle off of Jet motion (pretty nice play actually) and the defense went with the jet motion. Those three plays netted the bad guys 112 yards, all three plays were in the first half.

They finished the game with 107 yards of total offense.

All in all, pretty to work with one of the DE's, his alignment was a bit wonky, but I think one of my coaches told him the wrong thing. He also needs to be more aggressive. Also have to work angles with the CBs, their alignment is a bit different in this D, and in Stack Mode they are the last line of defense.

Oh, and we got the W too :).
None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.
