Help...how would you defend this offense?
« on: November 04, 2015, 02:03:26 PM »
2nd round of the playoffs and we have this team with some big ol backs.  Heard in their first playoff game they went to double tight. Should we shift to their power side or just load stay in base? Anything special you would do other than that? Will post 1st round playoff Game when I get it.

Team in the green.

I did not watch the whole thing.  However, it looks like they run to the power side almost (if not) all of the time.  I would use the shift call on that.

Have your guys tackle low on those power backs.  See some missed tackles with guys going high.

Couldn't get video of their 1st round.

But talking to coach they now have Ddouble tight and the FB and TB are lined up directly behind QB instead of FB off set. And then their power FB is between the G &  T. And they hand off to TB most times to power side. And then a FB dive to weak side. They also run that Toss play.

Heres my game plan. Shift to Power side...power side will be my strong side instead of Strong going to Field side. Strong side play stacks 50% split and In calls.... and Red 50%. On the weak side call Red In 100% of the time. If they hit the FB quick weak will have my LB as first safety net and my Mike which is a tackling magnet. First defender on the big boys tackle low 2nd defender hit hard 3rd strip the ball because looks as if they don't hold it to tight to their body....espcially #9. Putting my quickest DG over the C every play since we're shifting. So the DG would swap sides at times. Not really too weak in those positions at all but one is quicker and meaner then the other DGs I have rotating there.

What you think Patriot? And thanks for responding.

That makes sense to me.  If you use the shift call to address their tendency to run to the power side, then you are not completely selling out if they run a counter.  You are also putting enough guys at the point of attack so that they can make the play.  Ultimately, they will still need to make the play and good fundamental tackling should address that.

We have a similar situation this week in that the team that we are playing runs to the TE side a high percentage of the time.  We will mix in some SHIFT calls along with some other stuff, but we also have to be worried about cut backs as their runners like to do that if they get hemmed in at the line.

Well we won 19-13. We end up going to base and called stack IN all game long.
