Season update
« on: October 28, 2015, 09:04:58 PM »
So the team I've been helping (grade 11-12, Canadian) is 5-0. They've given up 54 pts but probably could have been less but the coaches are new to the system and don't have a lot of football experience.

Some of the TD's that have been given up are due to coaches not recognizing what's coming from the offense and not making a couple simple adjustments.  The defense has been solid. Pass defense has been better than expected, mostly due to the pressure were able to put in the backfield.

Things I've observed. Corners are a key as far as being able to read the play quickly. DE's still really make things work. Pressure to force QB is a must.  Having a spread-field/stack-boundary call speeds up that pressure.

Last game we struggled with quick pass to TE. In Red the OLB steps outside and the Mike couldn't get their in time to break up the pass. Having DOT installed would have really helped disrupt this play. As I write this I wonder if putting the DT inside shade or over TE would have slowed things up enough to mess with the timing.

Friday they play the best team in the association who is also a Spread team. They put up serious points and give up few. Press, Mutant, Quarters has been installed as well as Twister and Tornado for the line.  We'll see how things go.

We have two options if they are looking to use the quick hit to the TE's.
- WIDE - this moves the DT over the TE and we will also run this against teams that jet sweep with a fast kid who might want to cut it up inside the DE.
- DOT - has my DT's dropping into OLB read area and I usually end up with the OLB's blitzing through C gap

I mix in the DOT call periodically against teams that have heavily scouted us because it adds a nice little wrinkle for them and it gives my DT's a chance to attack from a different angle.

First loss for our Senior team this season. We got pumped. Lost 48-0. The other team executed very well and physically dominated us.   They are a very well coached team and probably has better athletes as a whole and it showed.   Pass game hurt us but not as much as poor tackling and the other teams great blocking. Again, physicality made the biggest difference.

I haven't watched the film yet but I think the passing hurt us due to: 1-not reading pass quick enough & where it was going, 2-coming down on the receiver quick and hard and making a hard tackle, but that's b/c of #1.
