Delayed release passes by TE's....
« on: August 13, 2013, 03:25:26 PM »
Hey coach got a quick question that my Asst DC brought up yesterday..

Okay assuming any full house double tight formation (or hell any formation with a TE)

lets say Cris or Sam is covering him. Outside ear to Inside ear like you teach. Well according to everything we've talked about if that TE wheels around (pivots) to block the spurs it's an AUTO blitz by that corner or LB correct???? cause his man is blocking. Just like keys in the backfield. If your man stays in to block then you blitz....

Well my AC asked a question "what if the TE wheels around for a quick second on a delay and then releases to the flat or pop pass, etc????"  My answer was that I've rarely seen it in youth where a TE shows blocking then releases but he said his offense did it a ton the previous year. I haven't seen much of it but thinking about it tonight it does worry me.  Cause RAPTOR and SAM/CRIS will be autoblitzing and that TE will technically be wide open..... Yes the pass rush should get there and either get a sack or an errant throw but if they don't it could be ugly... Thoughts on run blocking fakes then releasing on routes????

Teach "absorb" - if the spur gets blocked, he "absorbs" the sam/corner responsibility and grips up the te, the sam/corner sacks the qb while the spur covers the te and denys the release.
