Facing a not very talented DW team this weekend....
« on: September 09, 2013, 10:46:46 PM »
After our first loss of the season i'm taking on a team this weekend that only has 13 rostered kids. They are pretty small compared to us... Tiny QB.... Their left wing looks ok size wise but doesn't seem very fast....

I went to scout them. They are disorganized as heck, and the whole coaching staff looks clueless...

What's funny is that they are running the DW.... Doesn't look system based... hack job install... FB is at 3 yds deep in 2 point... wings are in 2 pt too.... pulling only the guard and cutting with a tiny TE....

I'm running the gambler obviously and i'm wanting to bring the pain on this team to build up team confidence.... These are the two alignments I saw them run. They run no motion, toss left, toss right, and have a garbage looking wedge. I didn't see a counter to speak of...

-------W---------Q---------W

--------TE-T-G-C-G-T-------------------SE
------W---------Q-----W

So i'm gonna use my base 46 GUTS but I also want to attack this team... I planned on a bunch of Mike gambler and moving the Fred to TOUGH alignment.... EVERY time they split that end out they run to that side.... So I planned on FREEZE call and send Fred over there to cover and blitz whatever corner was covering him.... Coach C is there any other defensive calls out of base to really throttle a sloppy DW team???? Anything you really like to do to confuse them and drive them backwards instead of forwards.... My team needs a confidence boost on D. I know we'll run thru them on Offense...

So far i have installed GAMBLER, MIKE GAMBLER, TOUGH, GAMBLER STACK, FREEZE, ICE, HAMMER, TORPEDO, DRAGON FIRE/FLAME, FREAK, VICTORY, NICK LEFT/RIGHT (we have yet to use the nick left/right call however)

I mostly use MIKE GAMBLER, GAMBLER, GAMBLER STACK and VICTORY on long downs.... I have used dragon as well to great effect....

Id say play the base and dont get too cute unless you have to.

one thing, when you get the arc motion, dont have the corners chase it, squat the corner waiting for counter or boot/reverse.

A poorly run dw may be the easiest offense to defend. It destroys itself. It would be hard to give advice without knowing what they run and if they have any adjustments. I doubt they have any adjustments and probably don't run any trap, belly or have more than 1 counter. What they probably do have is a qb boot and qb sweep. Just KISS and you should keep them from getting a first down.

Yeah they don't run motion on their toss and they only pull the BSG.... It looked sloppily installed. It's the DW for sure but it's not a disciplined install that's for sure....

I do intend to squat the corner though that is covering that wing in case of a possible reverse or counter..... I only saw toss, wedge and toss with an end over alignment...

My initial view that I posted was wrong.... It end over like this...

---------T-G-C-G-T-TE------------------SE
------W------Q---------W

---------------F

They run to whatever side the SE is on.....

Well, I do like running toss without motion.   ;) And I know you purist don't like only pulling guard but we have gone that route and never looked back. I have to admit our dw is a bastardized version.  ::) I do like splitting the ends.

We rolled the crap out of them..... They didn't run alot of split end that I saw.... I dragon fire/flame blitzed them to death since they showed ZERO threat of a pass at any point in the game even when down 30-6..... They didn't try to throw at any point during the game so my safety saw a LOT of action in the backfield trainwrecking everything.....

the only thing I had to do is keep my Mike from flowing to the toss and allowing the runner to cutback upfield into the running lane. Once we coached that up we were good to go.... My Mike slow played the toss and waited for the runner to cut then BAM.....

I think they had maybe like 60-70 yds of total offense...
