First scrimmage with the 46 gambler
« on: August 17, 2013, 01:18:29 AM »
We went out of division to play a team from another city who isn't even in our league for a scrimmage. going back and forth on O and D for an hour and a half.... They wanted to run their offense first. Okay no problem..

They're a division 3 team with 11-12 year old kids. They are unlimited weight. Above 159 lbs must play on the LOS tackle to tackle.  We're a division 1 team and we are weight restricted with no positional limitations. Our 12 year olds can be 155 and 13 can be 135.... Our heaviest kid is 153 lbs.

Low and behold they are a double wing team.... I kind of thought that going in so I prepped our team on how to align using our rules..... We manned up on their TE's and they had a helluva time trying to run against us at all....

I think we gave up maybe 1 first down... My Mike got held badly and they did get a 40 yd TD on us though... That was their only movement of the day... Other than that we had two picks, 6 sacks, and a TON of tackles for losses.... Killed their attempted wedge. They couldn't run power.... They barely could run sweep.... I used gambler, mike gambler, stone, dragon flame (they loved running right), and I believe one victory call...... I also alternated some laser and razor calls. I also used Mix and Max blitzes.....

Overall it was a great day for our 46. Our kids still have alot to learn about alignment but they played physical. My DE's had a field day in their backfield as well...

Offensively using the Calande DW we put on a clinic.... We scored 17 td's..... Ran a bit of everything. My runners juke too much and I'd like them to play more physical and start running people over but other than that the line blocked, pulled well, wedge was good, and our Ugly/Angry unbalanced, and Fire/Flame Wing on tags really had them confused. They kept shifting to Wing On thinking it was unbalanced..... That made the counters devastating when I countered using the "on" back..... My offense looked great....

Surprised they let you play an unlimited team.  I tried to schedule a scrimmage w/ an unlimited team in our area, because i wanted to spank em and get their players to come to my program.  But the league wouldn't let me.

We have the opposite going on for our scrimmage.  We got bumped down to D3 because the rest of our ORG. was awful last year.  We weren't very good either, 18 kids, 2 athletes, ended up 5-5.  Anyhow, were playing 2 D1 teams and the D2 champs & runner up's from last season.

To top it off, my star G/FB is hurt.  My HB is hurt.  And my WB & TE will be out of town.  So today will be a rough day.  We'll just keep it simple, really work on building up our second team, and giving our defense a good look.  Although i'll be missing my Sam, FS & DE, so i doubt our D will mesh well.  Good thing is all of our first year players & 2nd teamers will get a lot of reps.
It's all about having fun.  But losing aint fun!

Happens ALL THE TIME pre-season.  Jambo's and scrimmages, you never know who you'll get.  Somehow the D1 teams always get the cupcakes in the pre-season.  At least in my area.

Yeah we tried to get a D2 team that is in our conference but they didn't want any.... Yeah the talent was leaning in our favor but the fact that they had heavier kids made it a bit tougher for our O linemen. I wanted a bit of a challenge for our kids.... This team had some good linebackers as well.... We just played our game.... It let me see if I had the right kids in the right positions and I think for the most part we nailed it. I might need to move my starting SAM unless he pulls his head out....

Overall though considering they were a DW team they "shouldve" presented a good defensive look since i'm imagining their starting Defense runs against their O pretty often running the DW.... But when I looked at THEIR Offense I noticed they were only pulling a Guard backside. TE wasn't cutting. Their wedge was poorly installed.... It looked like the DW but it was about 50% quality...

Don't worry at all Coach.  I appreciate ALL of your help over the last few months..... I tell my team every day what we're trying to accomplish..... and how we're gonna go about it on O and D....

We've even started breaking out our practices with "POWER ON ME, POWER ON THREE, 1-2-3, POWEEEERRRRRRRR!!!!"

Instead of our team name... :)
