Coach, how do you go about calling a game on defense?  Do you automaticly blitz certain formations?  When would be the optimal time to run Nut, Tun, or Twist?  I'm just trying to get a feel for how to use all of the potential pressure this defense has.

You can run nut/tun/twister any time.  keep in mind that nut and twister are cover 0 with a six man rush, ideal for passing downs.

I wouldn't want to run those on fourth and short for example....

this is an attacking defense, you are looking to make big plays on defense and tackle them for huge losses and get them completely out of their game plan. by the third series you will see the halfback pass, hook and lateral and things of that nature.

Coach,

I bought it today and look forward to implementing it for the fall season for POP WARNER JV & UNL divisions. Do you have any suggestions how in depth to go with the boys? Also how hard is it to teach it to my assistants as the coordinator so the boys pick it up?

Teach it right to your assistants off the PDF and make sure they each have a copy to study.

Like all things....the teacher can make the difference.

What's a Pop Warner JV division?  UNL is unlimited I assume?  Is that an A replacement division?

JV or Junior Varsity is a name change for the JM-Junior Midget Division. These two divisions are your traditional Jr High or Middle School football ages and grades. Unfortunately Florida doesn't have tackle football for grades 6-8 grades. So this is the best substitute.

Where are you at in Florida? I have been coaching PW in Florida for about 10 years now. I do believe that there are a few middle schools with football in Florida up in the panhandle area but that might be gone as well.

Yeah, I'm in Pop Warner in MA, just never heard of JV being the name for Junior Midgets.  Not for nothing, and realizing you aren't the one who named it, but that's a stupid name since it's just a step in the age up process, not something that is lesser like JV is to Varsity.  And around here, JM has always been the most competitive division, since their 8th grade O/L's are the RB's and QB's that are likely to be the stars in HS. That's changing as we eliminate the O/L rules in D3, but historically JM has been our top level of play as far as the overall quality of the teams.
