Based on his 10m splits, Ben Johnson came through 40 yards in his 9.79 about 4.22 seconds after he left the blocks (so not counting his reaction time of 0.132 seconds).

Based on his 10m splits, Usain Bolt came through 40 yards in his 9.69 about 4.19 seconds after he left the blocks (so not counting his reaction time of 0.165 seconds).

Based on his 10m splits, Usain Bolt came through 40 yards in his 9.58 about 4.20 seconds after he left the blocks (so not counting his reaction time of 0.146 seconds).

(Bolt coasted his last 10m during the 9.69.  It was faster from the blocks to 40m than the 9.58.)

And yes, I estimated 40-yard times (using the times to 30m and the times to 40m), rather than using 40m times, for those of you wondering if there is an English/metric thing going on.

They broke down like this for reaction time/first 40/last 69.36/total:

0.132/4.220/5.438/9.79
0.165/4.187/5.338/9.69
0.146/4.200/5.234/9.58

The reaction times are available to the nearest .001 but the times to marks are only available to the nearest .01.

In case you're wondering how much knowing they're going 100m slows them down, Ben Johnson's best indoor 50m was 5.55 and he went through 50m in his 9.79 in 5.50.  His best indoor 60m was 6.41 and he went through 60m in his 9.79 in 6.33.  The current world record for 50m is 5.56 at altitude and 5.58 at sea level.  The current world record for 60m is 6.39.

yea we tested them 9 times each and they came up with those times---BLAZING FAST!!!!!

PSL, those are obviously the total times, by the way.  So you have to divide by 9 to get the average time for the 40.

So Nich has guys faster than Bolt! Wow. Like I said, he won't need an oline. Just run sweep every play and nobody on the planet can catch them. We had a combine at our league a few years back and we were amazed at some of the times dads that were holding the watches were writing down for kids. 5th graders running sub 4.7. We obviously knew the times were meaningless. In almost every situation in life, if something seems to good to be true it isn't. Not to say Nick doesn't have some burners. I bet he does. I just know the times are bogus.

I have seen legit 4.4 speed. It is something to behold. 4.6 is MUCH faster than say a 4.6 so I can't imagine what a 4.0 would be. But I think Nick might be baiting us again.

I have coached plenty of sub 5.0 kids.

We time them over 27 yards or half the width of the field.  :P

Nick is baiting us....just look at the baseball reference.  ::)  :)

Its why I asked how he knows they have D1 speed. I think most people do....at least one player anyway. Anything sub 5 is mind blowing fast.

Remember though that Nick is at the hs level. Sub 5 is common in these parts. Sub 4.6 most teams have at least a few and 8a has well over a dozen.

And why the pretty boys are a dime a dozen.  :)

What is fast for the Big Uglies at the HS level?

Wasn't that Poe kid a few years back at the Combine a sub 5 / 350+ pound NT? That would be scary.

I believe "sub 5" meant he was halfway through lunch.

no each time they ran it they had the exact same times---no math was needed

I was talking to our left wing's dad yesterday.  He said his son is so fast that when his son turns the light switch off he is in bed before it is dark!!!
