Rocket and Lazer Series
« on: June 13, 2016, 11:19:20 AM »
Does anyone know if Coach Calande has any counters in his rocket/lazer series?? For right now i have sprint, truck, and boot. But not a true counter play.

I'm believe it's just trap and boot off it.I've heard some other coachest experimenting with some qb spin stuff off action I'm sure Coach C will chime in....

I always wanted to try a Rocket Counter Cutback.  If you run a ton of Rocket/Lazer it could work really well. Just need the guy to stick his foot in about backside tacklish and head the other direction!

The boot, the dive...both go away from the motion, those are your "counters" to the flow created by the sweep action.

Assuming rocket is out of DTDW, why not have a regular WB counter off that motion?  You'd think it would be at least as effective as off regular motion, since rocket would get guys flying out there.

One other little play option that isn't (I believe) in the Calande DW (if it is, I apologize) - run rocket motion one way then run normal power the other way. So LWB goes in deep rocket motion right, then the rest of the offense runs power toss left to the RWB (who stays under the rocket motion).  There's no fake involved other than the pre-snap motion. Coachesturf has some video of the play at the HS level, it looked pretty cool.

"rocket" is just terminology for our split flow series threatening jet sweep to the right, dive and boot back to the left.

Its not the "rocket sweep" that you are thinking of.

"laser" is the terminology for our split flow series threatening jet sweep left, dive and boot right.

I run a play called ROCKET OUT 25 COUNTER

Nasty play..... probably scored at least 15-20 td's over 4 seasons with that play....

Looks like a drop back pass to the rocket motion back to the right..... I complete the ruse by having my linemen yell pass when the ball is snapped....

It looks like pass right but it's counter left.... I have video of it if anyone wants to see it...

I'm shoulder blocking....

Yeah I saw the play that an old high school DW coach ran that was similar..... I adjusted it to the way I was running counters and kept blocking the same but changed the pre play motion and refer to this type of motion as "ROCKET OUT" and "LASER OUT"...... It's different from standard rocket and laser in that our QB calls for the ball much later.....  I want the motion to cause the defense to adjust to a possible throw... When I use this on obvious passing downs it works great...
