I think I'm going to ruffle some feathers...
« on: May 15, 2011, 11:25:52 AM »
....this year running  the DCUBSW. I've changed a bit of it. I'm going to go out of a 2 point stance for the line, and I'm re-naming the QB position to BB(Blocking Back). I decided on the 2 point stance after watching video of Dave Potter's team using it. I believe that the speed of the 2 point stance will help my little guys(7-8 yrs old)

I had thought about calling the FB the QB, just to appease some of the parents who I know are gonna ask "Who's the QB?" I've already had an assistant coach from an older age group ask me "How's the QB play in your offense, more running or passing?".
To which I replied, "Neither, he blocks a lot. In my offense EVERYONE blocks." He laughed.

I also can't wait to bust out some good wedge runs. I had a coach tell me the other day he didn't like the wedge because "it looked funny" and it wasn't "preparing the kids for high school ball".

Yes I can already hear the comments, "What, no QB? How do you have an offense with no QB?" "That formation doesn't look right." "Do these boys even pass the ball at all?" "You gotta throw the ball to move the ball coach."

Sorry, just blowing off some steam. Thanks DC for the UBSW playbook, I'm really looking forward to this season. Cmon already football season!

we used Clark's UBSW with our 10's as a change up last year and it worked great. Also used the 2 pt stance and called our QB the BB.

I used the 2 point stand with my 7 & 8 last year running the DW and frankly I hate it. Its a fast way to get them off the LOS. However, its a short cut that I would recommend you stay away from. THey end up playing to high and develop a bad habit of playing high rather on Offense or defense.

Here see this video of my team. I did not like it and will go back to the 3 point this season with the same age group.

Hey, seems like we think alike, lol. How did the 2 point stance work for your team?

I didn't think your team looked bad at all running out of a 2 point stance coach. How did your guys do last season? If you don't mind me asking...

Hey, seems like we think alike, lol. How did the 2 point stance work for your team?

i saw no issues in using the 2pt, but we did emphasize proper stance and get off to avoid some of the issues other posters talk about (ie: false steps, too high, etc..)  for us, it seemed to help us get off the ball quicker so i rolled with it.  it also helped hide the backs which ended up being an added benefit i wasn't even considering at the time.

in an earlier post, Clark pointed out the drawbacks of a 2pt when considering "ON" blocks.  Since you're using "Over here / over there" instead of GOD blocking, i see no issues with it.  With that said, i'm hardly the expert.
