But how about when you get argumentative belligerent parent?  What are you gonna say if he says "F" the o-line!  My son should be QB!
Don't really get any of that anymore, since I learned out to deal with parents in a respectful manner.  You get what you give.

I pull out my wallet, I refund him the fee to play and  get the sons equipment and excuse them. When I ask for the sons equipment, belligerance ends rather quickly.

Good call, and a great way to handle it...

Guess what i do?  NOTHING!  It never comes up, because it's never discussed.

For whatever reason, when people know it's non negotiable, they just don't try.  If they think theres a chance, or an oppening, then they will.  I think. parents like the fact that our policy is non negotiable & that we wont discuss playing time or football matters w/ them.  Because that means, were not letting other parents cloud our judgement.  We can never be accused of playing favorites.

I must be crazy because I will talk to parents about their  kid. I will not do it unless it is a good time for me. In other words sometimes I ask to delay the conversation to a time that is better for me.  I just talk to them honestly and tell them where their kid is and where I think he needs to go. I have never had any real problem with this. I have had a couple of kids actually do what I said they needed to do and end up where they wanted to be. Imagine that if you help a kid set a goal and help the parents understand the goal they can reach it sometimes. We are not in white castles up on the hill looking down on the non coaching folks.  You know I am pretty secure in my abilities and I am very objective, I am never having a debate I am just telling the parent the factors that go into my position.

Agreed.  I don't get it either.

On the couple occasions that a parent tried to test our policy.  I very kindly told them, that while i appreciate their insight.  It is our team policy, to never discuss football related matters w/ parents.  So as to be fair to all kids & parents on the teams.

Thats all i have to say, and were good to go.

I'm using examples of what i see happen to other coaches.  This doesn't happen to me or my staff.

You mean except for all the coach's kids. I mean come on its not like parents don't have access to you, you only listen to the ones on your side.

if you dont listen to the parents or turn your back to them? Much easier for the parents to stick the knife in your back.

Coaches,

For those who are coming in to the clinic and wish to use the Chicago and Metra Train systems to get from Midway Airport to Elgin, IL I have put a small packet together.  The total cost one way should be $9.00 ($2.25 for the CTA and $6.75 for Metra)  the trip should be about 2 to 2.5 hours depending on when your arrival time to Union Station.

Some of the pictures are a bit fuzzy if you try and zoom in, but the attached CTA/Metra map has dynamic zoom.

Maybe Danial can move this up closer to the first page.

John

This is great. Can you please do one for O'Hare?

Then maybe Dan can post it on the registration page as well. Im not sure the out of town'rs realize how pricey cab fare is in Chicago. I sure didn't.

Thanks Brother. I look at the train schedules and its all Greek cuz I don't know the area.

Ask them to sort out all the positions, and tell them you'll call a meeting for all the parents so that they can announce their choices.
You sir are full of coaching Gold! Gold I tell you, Gold!

Blue Line subway to Jackson, then hoof it west six or so blocks to Union Station.  Then hop the same Metra as in the Midway trip.  Blue Line is like 45 minutes from O'Hare to Jackson.

Im struggling with connections that marry up with my flights? Time has to be worth something Im thinking. The Bus is really cheap but takes many hours and many connections. Im sure I'd be calling you from Gary asking you what I did wrong.  :P

Door to door via Go Airport Express is $67.60 so that is a little better... plus tip Im sure. Whats the deal....is gas 6 bucks a gallon there or something? Tolls everywhere? Traffic considered in the prices? Renting a car is still a couple hundred bucks.

In Denver we just hail a covered wagon....and hay is cheap.  ;)

Im sure Dan will help us out of town'rs figure it out.

--Actually, it isn't.  I think he handled it very unprofessionally and irresponsibly.  "I will prove to the dad that my kid is better than his kid by blowing up his kid right in front of daddy!"  So you proved you were right.  Did it make you feel better?    Did you feel better proving that your kid is better than his kid?  Wow.

No, didn't make me feel better, I knew that my son was better, but as one friend to another, and the Dad was and still is my friend, I told him on numerous occations that my son was a better Full Back than his son, after listening to it at the field and away from the field for several weeks, I asked him if going head up would settle it, he said it would. It did.

"To me that is a VERY slippery slope.

--Not slippery.  Just dumb. (thank's dave....always helpful to call someone dumb....)

What if 10 dads are telling you their son should play FB?  You gonna have your son truck all 10?  How about QB?  Are you gonna waste reps to prove he cant play QB?

--Again, I agree with your point.  Is this how Tim proves his point?  By finding another kid who can deck the dad's kid?  Wow.  Incredible.  The youth football coach stereotype just took another hit.

--Dave"

Everyone on here has numerous drills, or techniques, or even ways to prove his point that others may not agree with, but there is alot that can be said about offering solutions or a different way of doing things, besides calling them names. Maybe thats how he treats his players as well who knows...

I come on here to increase my knowledge, not to be called names. I guess Dave has NEVER put one kid up in front of another knowing that there was a possibility of them getting smashed. Guess he is to intelligent for that.
