How to set up a clinic
« on: December 04, 2012, 02:34:02 PM »
The kids in our community need a "eco"-friendly camp. (eco=economic)

My plan is to provide such to them. The only issue being I have only ever coached in camps/clinics. I have never been apart go the behind the scenes portion.

For those that have where did you start? Did you gather coaches? Facility? Sponsors?

All advice is appreciated.

How long is the camp?  What do you want to teach?  How many players?  What are their ages?

week long camp

150 kids (target number. able to take more)

13 and under (thats generally what we see around here)

focus is offense by position. I am enlisting the help of coaches in the county to handle the different positions (C, OL, QB, RB, WR)

Ideally we'd like to run a separate week long camp for defense. just depends on the community support.

Have you considered working with your local YMCA ?

I helped run one of those football camps before, basically it was skills and drills all am til lunch, a lunch break which involved some time at the YMCA and then the afternoon was more skills drills and a touch football game.

Our closest Y in in the next county over. Our county runs a free 2 day camp the past 2 years. Our coaches want to give more to these kids though.

Contact your local high school or college about using their facilities/rental fee.  hopefully a place with an indoor facility for possible inclement weather.
Good positive coaching staff
Waivers
pads/cones
Possible Insurance coverage

My son attended a week long Chicago Bears camp last summer (about $350.00+). He had a blast.  It was a 6 hours a day. From the little time I had to observe and know they played team on team for the last 40 mins.  I do not recall seeing any pads on the field.

Our local High School offers a week long one for about 2 hours a day. They break up the ages throughout the day.

I have been doing all kinds of football camp for the last 40 years.  Youth camp that were one day camp and youth camp that lasted for 1 to 2 weeks.  Also my Hawg Tuff camps are some the very best around  email me at hawgtuffcamps@yahoo.com and or call me at 864 247 8394 and I will gladly help you out.  Also on the Hawg Tuff camps website www.hawgtuff.net go to the youth page and click on camp in a box - this is a very reasonably price help tool to learn to run a smooth enjoyable camp.

This is good stuff. From just these post, here's what I have found out:

One of the local colleges is willing to possibly "donate" the field space. (AD needs to check with his legal dept)
My local HS is planning to host on and interested in combining resources (they need coaches)
Under Armour, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Washington Redskins have fairly simple processes for attaining sponsorship.
I know this is just the tip.

Thank you guys so much.

I also found this guide from USA Football.

Coach,

Ive done several weve done them for free and the 1/2 day ones for $20 as a program fundraiser
Go to Sadler Insurance, you are going to need that
They also have waiver templates
Many Universities have outreach programs where they will send players out- if not then the local FCA chapter can usually get several for you IF you allow them the chance to do an optional talk at the end. We got several NFL players Mike Minter, Damon Benning going that route- best of luck
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

SADLER INSURANCE IS THE BEST AROUND....GREAT COVERAGE AND YOU ONLY PAY AFTER A MINIMUM NUMBER FOR THE EXACT NUMBER OF CAMPERS YOU HAVE.  THE COST PER CAMPER IS AROUND $1.50.
