you have the nose but do you have 2 tackles that can 2 gap?

you have a 3-4 in dc46, move sam to a strong safety player,  perhaps teach the olb/de robber and wallah 3-4 lol

Chuck,

Do you have four kids that can play LB well?  Just a NT does not make a 34...the LB's are key to the 34 and depending on your age level a seven man front can be the kiss of death if you don't have four linebackers that play.  Most 34's the NT and DE's are 2 gap players meaning their main job is to absorb six blocks...  Some 34's slant with one LB always slanting with the interior line...meaning you are really playing a 43 but it looks like a 34...but again this really comes down to what other players do you have.  In my opinion a true 34 you need to have at least five good players near the LOS and you also need to have two good safeties that can play run (and pass if you are 9 and above).

well we play the dc46 and to me i would just move my to de to lbs and bring the sam to safety and i think it would work. i just don't have a playbook of different plays, blitzes and formations  that might work at the youth level. like i said the 46 looks like a 3-4 the ss up on the line.

I agree with Jack's comment on personnel coach.  A standout at nose will definitely help if he can be a real two-gap player, but you will need at least 6 kids with the athleticism and aggressiveness needed to play linebacker to effectively play a 3-4.  I've run the 3-5-3 for about 7 years now and, like 33 coach, we play our "54 Steel" front, a 3-4 look, with two-deep shell/coverage behind it.

In our system we teach slanting attacking the next man avoid the man o n you.
It allows kids to not have to 2 gap
