We played a bad team last night. The Frosh put on a clinic.

Nice to see Q out there. It is cool seeing our former players in high school.

Tough night. They were clearly better but our players fought hard.

Here's the truth, we were physically outmatched & still had a chance. They are a really good football team. I am proud how our boys fought till the end.

Well the season is over, & it's bittersweet. This was a great team only they really lacked the talent to compete in 8A. Our biggest problem was the OLine. No size & limited ability when you are playing against Florida defensive fronts is a bad combination. Friday night they had several D1 DLinemen & to be honest we couldn't block them.

Injuries really decimated the OLine. Our starting LG was 10 on the depth chart, the RT was 7th. I know these are excuses & in reality we got our asses beat. Still I was really proud of this group. They played hard every game even when out matched. The QB was a true freshman who developed each week. His potential is amazing. RB was & will be an issue. The defense will return 8 starters.

Id never survive injuries of that quantity. We had a 25 man roster this year. Our starting C weighed about 130 lbs. Entire O-line was 9th/10th grader's.

Been there, when I coached at the small private school our roster were 17-19.

8A is a different beast. Large schools, large rosters; we have 3k students & some teams have almost 5k.

So Joe, what do you think about an 0-9 team making the play offs?

There are many problems with the new system. There was many problems with the old system, but at least you understood what you had to do to be in. In some ways the new system is good, it keeps more teams involved through the entire season. The problems however are many. A win less team in the lowest class in the playoffs on a coin flip is the least of the issues.

There are teams that get huge advantages simply by their schedules. The Bonus Points, allows for teams in certain districts to start with almost a 3 point advantage at the end of the season. What district you are in also plays significantly into your point total at the end of the year. I think the first issue that needs to be fixed is the way districts are set up. Having a 7 team district vs a 4 team district creates a huge disparity. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for the way districts are set up.

I think the biggest issue with Florida HS Football right now is the recruiting problem. The FHSAA has basically allowed teams to illegally recruit players with no consequences. There was a team here in Central Florida that basically broke every rule, was found guilty; only to have no penalty. The players were allowed to play, & the school received no punishment. Is it cheating if nothing happens when you get caught?

I heard Seminole didn't make it in even though they finished second in the district. That is crazy to me. Hagerty got in over them with a worse over all record?

Comparing Hagerty & Seminole isn't a good case. Hagerty is 7A & won their district. Seminole is 8A came in second, & even though they finished 8-2 their schedule wasn't nearly as strong as other teams. I thought I explained the problems in the last post.

It's really all about scheduling.

The part that sucks is you can't control how many teams are in your district and you can't control how good your district is. Honestly, I have no idea how the new point system works? Are the points assigned preseason or are they awarded based on the record of your opponent at the time of the win or is it based on their over all record?
As far as recruiting goes, it is going to be hard to enforce because of the open enrollment/transfers. They can just say they are going to that school for academic reasons. Even if it is obvious they were recruited for athletic reasons.

There is bonus points for teams that have made the playoffs the previous 2 years. Then the points are determined by W/L record. It's the bonus points that add up. So when you schedule for the upcoming season it really benefits you to schedule teams with bonus points.

The transfer thing is another matter. Any player can go to any school for athletic reasons providing the school is open. Coaches have found inventive ways to get around whether the school is open or not. When a school does break the rules there are no consequences.
