I have operated on the basis that if a player doesn't understand WHY they are doing something then they will never fully know HOW to do something.

They may execute but it might be one half step slower than the guy that knows why he is blocking this guy, why he is violently pumping his arms to accelerate or why you cannot  round and must stay flat on a dig route

So on that I would take coaches that can teach a player the why's vs having one with all of the knowledge in the world stuck in their head but cannot find a way to relate to the player enough to teach it to them. You have to bring yourself to their level its all about relating and catering to your age group and players

Agree! Knowing WHY makes players more effective than doing it just to do it...
