Spring Game
« on: May 21, 2017, 10:38:04 AM »
We played our Spring Game Friday night. Our offense scored on 8 of 9 possessions. The only incomplete pass we had was a drop. Defensively we improved from last season.

Final 56-21.

We go fast, we only ran 43 plays for the game. The average drive was 5 plays in 90 seconds for 62 yards. Our only incompletion was a dropped pass on a wheel that hit the RB right in the hands. Every WR caught at least one pass, every back had a carry.

They ran UBSW & WT, they were very slow, 3 plays & a punt took 4 minutes off the clock. The defense is young, our freshman FS was all over the field & had 4 knock out shots. We really only gave up a couple of poor plays. We played 25 players on defense & 17 on offense.

Looked like a clinic was in session.  What was crazy was there were more rushing yards than passing.  Awesome share thanks Joe.

Our Offensive line promises to be very good. Our TB rushed for 1100 yds last year & is even better this year. People forget we avg'd 35 points a game last season & we return 10 of 11. We started 9 returners in the Spring game.

Defensively is the big change. They had 63 plays for 210 yds, that included a 75yd run & a 35 yd run.

Our QB really had a great night. Considering it was windy, every pass was on the money. The Screen game drew oohs &
ah's from the crowd. The back up QB is 5'6" & 130 lbs. He is the one with that sick move on Power Read.

Our issue will depth.

Thanks for sharing Coach. Your spring game looks like a Fall game. Can only imagine what this team will look then.

Thanks for the compliments, there's still a lot to work on. I thought our WR blocking wasn't good,
 & some other details.

That middle screen to the wr was a thing of beauty. I'll be giving you a call this week for some assistance.

That is Rocket he catches the ball roughly where the tackle was.

Our Screen game is rather complex, but is actually easy in it's base form. It is based in the  4 Fast Screens from my Power Point & our Slip screen to the TB. We often run combinations which makes it more complex. Example is Double Rocket where both #1's are running Rocket. The QB then reads to the open side. Sometimes we run Slow Screen one way & Rocket the other. We also have a Bubble Return that we block like Rocket.

The key is a patient QB & good blocking.

I just re watched the video. I really like the screen (rocket I assume)  at :58 and the smoke and go where the normal blocker on the smoke splits the defenders and runs the go.  I had thought smoke and go was the same player faking the smoke and then taking off on the go route but I like this way much better.  I'm really starting to get interested in this spread thing ;)

I know you have to be happy about the defense. An overhaul was needed. When did Hagerty start running the sw? Everybody wants to be Apopka without doing what Apopka does so well.

YES
I talked to SN's dad and he told me he is starting at RT. That is great to hear because he is a really good kid. Still cracks me up how much bigger he is than his dad.
