I know you have to be happy about the defense. An overhaul was needed. When did Hagerty start running the sw? Everybody wants to be Apopka without doing what Apopka does so well.
There is a reason Hagerty is Hagerty and Apopka is Apopka.

And it is not the ubsw. Not even close. A local team was running the ubsw some. Said it was Apopka's offense. No. No it wasn't. Would not of mattered either way. Funny how some hs coaches don't get scheme is only mildly important on offense.

On another somewhat relates topic, a local school just had their entire staff resign. They were unsuccessful for a number of reasons. They hired an ex NFL player and everybody thinks they are going to be world beaters. O was talking to one of their dbs. He has no idea of what defense they are running. Eventually we figured out it is a 40 front but that is it. The kid does not understand how his responsibilities change in run support from c0/1 to c2 or 3. Good luck with that. Sounds like some great NFL coaching going on there.

It is amazing how many people think that if you played in the NFL, you must be able to coach.

The most successful HS Coach in my State that has won multiple Championships at 4 different Schools played TE for the Browns for 12 years.

The second most successful HS Coach in my State that has won multiple State Championships in 3 different Classifications played DL for the 49'rs for 10 years.

One of the longest running HS Headers in my State...30 something years....yep a former Denver Bronco that played DB for a very very long time. You tend to latch onto one negative on just about any topic and make it the norm for some odd reason.

The best youth HC I ever faced bar none....played LB'r for the Saints back in the day.

'running some UBSW' and saying it is Apopka's O is like running a pro set, throwing to the backs in the flats and saying, 'we run the west coast offense'.

it might look similar(at first), but there is no real similarities.

i couldn't sleep last week and just watched about an hour of apopka(they are all over utube).

very few blown plays.  excellent efficiency of movement from the linemen.  nobody looking out of place.  guys effectively getting in position to block downfield.  backs whos steps to the hold seldom varied.  in short, execution execution execution.

to go back to the west coast thing-you might make all the reads right as a qb for bill walsh, hit the check down man, whether that be the back or a Fl or whatever, but if you didn't put that ball on target-and i mean slightly above the numbers a stride in front-you would likely be corrected.  and we all saw how that worked in the 80s and 90s.

to me, you could throw 90% of the time, and another guy could run 90% of the time, but if they are well coached, i'd see a lot more similarities in those offenses than two teams that run the same formation, but one executes and the other doesn't.

'we run apopka's offense'-well, you better be darn, darn good buddy.  or you don't run it.

P

I live in Apopka, & I will be going to their Spring Game tomorrow. Apopka is extremely well coached, believe it or not the team we played has been running the UBSW for a few years now. Last season they were 9-2. They got the offense from the Apopka staff.

Anyway, here in FL most teams are very good on offense. See the post on Defense being dead.

coach i wasn't trying to disparage your competition, i was refering to CoachRob's post where a team was running 'some' UBSW.

no disrespect intended.

It is not universal. exceptions to every rule.

Actually....its amazing how many people think that because you played in the NFL you cant coach.

Its normal thinking around here for reasons I do not understand.

Just off the top of my head just in my neighborhood....Dave Studdard....local HS Coach.....Louis Wright....local HS Coach.....Brad Pyatt...local HS Coach that just put $100K of his own money into his Program....Brendan Stokely....local youth coach....Ed Mc Caffery....local youth coach.....

That does not include those previously referenced up-thread. One of them has been the radio voice of the Denver Broncos for as long as I can remember. No idea how he does it all every Fall and keeps winning State.

doesn't rodney harrison coach youth?  dunno how good he is, but he talks about it on TV sometimes, he seems VERY enthusiastic about it.

i'm sure it cuts both ways.  lots of good ones, prob some bad ones.

I'm not saying it means you can coach either way. I'm just saying that just because you played doesn't mean a darn thing about your coaching ability. At any level. The people around here think this guy(who is a really nice guy and played a season or two for your Broncos I believe) is going to have this team walking on water. Maybe he will some day. Everybody just expects it this season. I hope he does well. I have former players going to school there so of course I want them to succeed,

There are a couple former NFL guys down here who have failed miserably and in disgraceful fashion too.

I went to the Apopka vs UOC game last night. Apopka won 38-22 in a very interesting game. UOC has the #2 RB in the country who is a UM commit.

Apopka had trouble with bad snaps all night, very UN Apopka like. The 2 O Lineman are everything advertised. They rolled up 600 yds of offense.

New center with first real contact maybe? They only snap to 2 guys and I don't remember it ever being to a moving target like the old days. Am I correct in that? They'll get it fixed. That is what spring games are for.
