45-46 counter question.
« on: August 28, 2013, 11:33:11 AM »
Any one running have a slite issue with the wb over running the hole? Like Red-I jet 45 counter the qb fakes jet pitch and wb comes under for the hand off, they are so quick and deep they are hitting out the 7 hole, good yardage, but basically on their own.I am thinkingof having the qb fake and step toward the wb for a shallower path.Thougths. All other counters working well.

I'll tell you in a couple days.
This summer with my rag tag crew it looked good. It had Von wide a couple of times. I had thought about running it as an ice play also. Just designing it to go outside or right under the d end.

Yes, ours is hitting wide as well but like you said, good yardage.  Since good yardage is the goal I don't mess with it.  In many cases it's a home run play since the defense has completely vacated after two RedI 46 Jets.

I've only run it a couple of times in scrimmages so I'll let you know later in the year when the defenses are more disciplined.

I,am gong to run reverse but a put side hand off to the wb,and he,ll have the blocking then.I am on my way to the field now to work with a couple of wb and get it solved and will get back with results.

Ok,heres what I found out.2 ways to get it working well. (1) Qb open to jet fake jet pitch second step 45 degree angle at where the fb is (down hill) hand the ball off  with extended arms, and third step to roll out. (2) put the qb at 3 yds fake jet  hand off and do normal step to roll out , dropping the qb down a yard .It will take about 2yds off the wb path either way you do it.jmo and he hits a lot tighter ,like the the actual 5-6 hole.

We haven't even installed the 45 - 46 Counter this year. We have been running a 24 Counter off of Fly, out of our Rifle (unbalanced) formation with a Flex tag. It hits the 2-4 hole pretty quick and we have had great success with it. And we also have the Cross play off of Fly as well. Both are pretty good and net us good yards going up the 4 hole.

Here is our Counter, to give you and idea of what I mean. Let me know what you think?

Very nice coach I really like it. How often to you run fly and is it a gainer?

We run Fly out of a few different formations and even use tags to give even more looks. And yes it is a gainer for us, generally 8-15 yards. But what I love doing is using it to set up my Base, Counter and Trap game. It is a great change up to use on short yardage plays because the Fly motion causes the LB to hesitate and allows our G to pull up the hole and make it to the 2nd level. As you know if the G's can make it to the 2nd level you are looking at, at least a 5 yard gain. Excellent gain on 3 or 4th and short.
