COMPLETE COXBOX POWER WING OFFENSE
« on: March 28, 2012, 05:22:19 PM »
CoxBox Power Wing Offense. All UTC. Contains DW Base Series, Bison Shift, Off Set DW Series, DW Belly Series, DW Unbalanced Series, Complete 'I' Wing Series, Cowboy [2x2] Series, Empty [3x2] Series, Off/Line Manual, and QB/RB Manual. It is based on IOL Blocking, but includes a zone back scheme [my Wash Call] which looks like TKO, GDB, or SAB. Formatted to be run at any level and every play is diagramed against a 40, 50 and 60 front. And there are only 4 tags in the entire offense. But, it's not free!

I agree, this is well worth your purchase if you are going to run the DW!  It is very detailed and install friendly.  Coach Cox does a great job of breaking things down: you get the basic DW, OL manual, QB/RB manual, and other formations are included that you will love.

I like his DW,and  I series,If your running his dw the fly series is a great compliment. ,very sound in how you can morph different formations run the same play and get the defense to react so differently. Can,t beat it.Some may not think it,s all pure DW ,fine  it has all the priciples and it,s what counts at the end of the 4 quarter.jmo

Coaches I'm not saying this because me and Cox are close....but I have seen some playbooks (many really) and his system is very sound. The investment is minimal and you get a lot for the money. I have seen systems where they break them down 60 per and by the time you get it all you spent well over 200 dollars. As a youth coach money is tight. So you have to invest in sound concepts and get plenty bang for the buck. What you get for the little money he is asking for is really stealing. I don't get a dime nor do I want a dime. The thing is that only a hand full of coaches I have came across have been true to their word. Many will give for a bigger gain in the end. (Another story for another day.) In the end he's not trying to get rich, but giving you his system that he has intentions on running if he came out of retirement this season.

Coach Cox, Lawson, Cisar, Olsen, and Clarke sent me items that in the end I could tell the intent wasn't to get rich, but to be helpful. If you have Coach Cox system you have a system that you can run from youth-HS. Thanks Coach Cox for helping us and I know you're mad at me for doing this because you hate this type of stuff...but I had to let people know how I felt about what you do for us coaches. (As well as the other coaches that have sent items to me as well.)

Well said (both Durfee and Coach Big B)! I ran DW last season but did use other formations with DW principles and plays. This season will be running COXBOX I PISTOL or POWER PISTOL as my offense. I like that fact that Coach Cox has kept many of the DW principles intact with his Power Pistol Offense. I like the use of several formations and feel that ... Simple Blocking Schemes + Same Plays + out of Multiple Formations = SUCCESS!!! Double Wing Principles at there best! IMHO

I called Coach Cox..."The Man, the Myth, the Legend!" and meant every word! He has been there helping me with this football thing since November! And we have been in constant contact since then. He has always been there to help when I had a question (no matter how stupid) or wanted to simply bounce an idea off of him. He is a great resource!

Do you mean like the Markham power wing, with an E as the snapper?

Bob - no, it's a multiple formation DW principle based power offense.

In other words, you got your wish - he's not calling it "Double Wing", he's doing a bunch of other stuff using his DW principles.

On to Coach Cox - I really like his stuff.  My only...hesitation...(for lack or a better word) is how different some of his terminology is, and the problems that presents TO ME in pulling that into what I'm already doing.  I could drop everything else I do and just run his stuff to the letter, but that's a big learning curve during a point in my life I where I really can't spend the time to do that.

One of the things I've really liked about using JJ and Jack's stuff is that, while not identical, it's close enough in terminology and concepts that it becomes almost interchangeable, much like their defense.  I can EASILY pull a full series out of JJ's simple DW playbook and mesh it into another series out of Jack's playbook, etc.

Now, having seen Coach Cox and after speaking to him at the DWS, I believe I can implement some of what he does, but the different terminology and some of the ways he calls his formations and plays requires some time and brain power - which I'm kind of lacking these days - to figure out how to work it into what I am already doing.  What I'm going to do is try to just implement one or two series/formations and figure them out, and go from there.  I'll almost definitely use some of his offset FB stuff to feature my FB on more plays, that was just a freakin revelation for me at the DWS.  Wish I had that last year, actually.  Which I think I did, but just didn't use it.  And maybe his fly, we'll see.  That might be a nice complement to the offset FB series.  I should have a talented starting backfield returning, so I think I can do more with them since they've already run the core with me.  We'll see.  I may in fact base out of his offset FB formation right from the beginning.

Coach, I like your assessment. And I can see where you are coming from in terms of terminology, etc. You grew up in Gregory and JJ's system so all their terminology has stuck with you and that is what you know, deservedly so. So I could see how any transformation would be a little difficult. I would have a tough time learning their system as well. But then again, why would I want to. Actually, I have never really looked at any one elses system anyway. What I really like about my system is the flexibility and diversity it has to offer DW Coaches. It is also a growth Offense, meaning you can run it at any level including HS. Plus I don't have to run out and buy something extra from different people to blend into my system. Plus, I don't have to spend more money down the road to get the little extra pieces that go with the offense. Hey, $200 later I might just have a complete system. I think my system pretty much has everything built into it.  My system is not for everyone, just like the other coaches who have a system is not for everyone. But I do know that it is a quality product that is well put together and detailed oriented. It even has a sense of creativity built into it.

John

I ran Clarks DCWT with my own terminology because his made ZERO sense too me.

Worked just fine.  Cant you use your own terms and blend all DWís regardless?
