SPREADING OUT YOUR DW WITH RAM AND TIGER
« on: June 05, 2012, 03:42:35 PM »
COXBOX RAM AND TIGER. ADDING A LITTLE TRIPS TO THE DW WITH A RUN AND QUICK PASS GAME.
CAN BE VERY GOOD AT THE YOUTH LEVEL. OBVIOUSLY THESE ARE JUST TWO SAMPLE PLAYS.

I remember last season when you sent me the Ram and Lion. The kids loved that formation and the Tiger is really nice.

The 90's game within it's framework makes these two formations much deadlier.

I added unbalanced and flexed the TE.  Its tough to line up to let alone stop.

Coach its a very nice look for sure. With no pulling? Have you put this in action yet? Or is this going to be something new?

The other Ram is the no pull one. (The one Coach Craig showed to him) This one the guard pulls.

yes its seen limited action, KINDA.  i put a variation the formation in for the second to last week of our season for the second offense.  i didnt coach the offense all year, and the coach who did was like "if you think you can do anything with this group, you go right ahead".   i cant remember the second offense having even a first down for the SEASON!.  i do however remember them turning the ball over in the double digits.

so i put in a very limited playsheet for the last week.  16 power, 18 sweep, 30 wedge, 35 counter, and Z reverse.  (the z reverse was for a great kid with a heart issue that wouldnt be able to play football after that year).  simple TKO blocking rules.   i didnt use motion because i thought it might be too much, i aligned him at wing.  i used direct snap to help with qb center miscues.

that same "inept" second offense marched down the field on the other teams first defense and scored.  no fumbles.

in nearly every defense i saw vs twins, the OLB covers, or at least walks out with the slot.  in the odd front it could be either the S/WLB or the DE/OLB that walks.  either way the C gap gets exposed.

i didnt pull the PSG although i would have liked too.  the bottom line is any twin set WITH a TE makes for a tough alignment for the defense.  add in a flex TE for those teams that keep a DE type on the LOS.  the above formation is the basically a UBSW. so when i came across the coxbox ram formation, i just tinkered some to make it an alignment i wouldnt want to see as a defensive coordinator.  with the RAM formation you can add the rocket motion which open up alot of sweeps, reads, spinner, etc.

funny thing though, the last week of the season the "OLD" second team offensive coach stepped back to call plays, went back to HIS stuff......you can guess how that went.

i owe a ton to this forum and the brialliant minds here.  just like to point out how much i appreciate the coaches knowledge and generosity with it.   im a coxbox and JRtitan deciple.

Hey Coach C how would you use Rocket Motion? Would you start him on one side and work him to strong with Rocket motion?
