Trap, Wedge, or Blast
« on: November 28, 2014, 02:58:04 PM »
I'm coaching a group of 7-9's next season. Not sure if I'll have a "select" team but looking into power pistol.  Which of these series would you use with the 77-9 age group and why?

Wedge and blast for sure. I wouldn't use trap cuz most defensive tackles at that age aren't over aggressive were the trap is necessary.

I agree with this. I wouldn't install trap unless you knew you were going up against a stud DT and at this age those are few and far between.

Start with the Base Power Pistol install Red & Blue I, series, and build from there from what your kids can handle and execute. This offense is much like the DW(contraian) You run power to set up other plays that mimick power ,counters ,sweeps, passes and p.a.p.s.

Would any of you consider BASE at this age?

As in the (base blocking scheme) yes.If your meaning the base Power Pistol add plays once the first one can be executed well left and right.

I am referring to the BASE Series in the manual. It seems like a possible starting point since I 11 returning players and the majority of them are linemen.
