44 Personnel
« on: August 03, 2013, 10:32:04 AM »
Does anyone have a breakdown on how your personnel should be aligned in this defense?  I play in a MPP league and having been going with a 6 man front to limit the exposure of some of my smaller/less talented players. We are now older and teams will be spreading us out and I now have a few more players with size & speed that may allow me to make this transition. My main question is can I be successful if I have 2 or 3 MPP players in my front four if the rest of the players are solid/good. The players I have identified for ILB are good players but would get little support upfront and that is my main concern.

50 % of the time I walk the SSOSLB into the C GAP and show a odd front.  Forces Big on Big up front to the strong side.

Under Front!!

Very Basic Split 4-4

**** NOTE  any time you run an Under Front that OSLB has got to be a "STUD" Linebacker because he's on an Island much like a Corner Back is.

Got it makes sense.....tks. What about your sets for spread (2x2) or trips?

Ahhhhh The magical question!!  How much passing do you really think you are going to see?  Reason I ask is that you are already in a Nickel package without really having to change a thing (dependent upon the abilities of your OSLB's).

the 4-4 is very easily morphed into a 4-2-5 to face Spread teams.  However, I want to make damn sure they can pass, not just throw, before I start changing my defense.  I used JR's 4-4 about 80% of the time and went to the 4-2-5 maybe 5%.  I used Jack's 6-3 as my Blitz package 15%.  Guess you can say that I could have simply left the 4-4 in all season.  But then, the "Nutty Professor" in me couldn't accept that.

 ;) ::)

Download the Manual for the Split 4-4.  It has everything you need and is very well conceived.  Paul (JR) has done yeoman's work and can dissect this D better than I can.

Check the manual posted at the top of this forum.  It goes through alignments and personnel placement in some detail.  In an MPP league, you can rotate MPPs in the two inside tackle position.
"They call it coaching but it is teaching...You do not just tell them...you show them the reasons"

"You have to be smart enough to understand the game, and dumb enough to think it's important."

“…you have no bad habits to break...We either coach it or are allowing allowing it to happen.”
