Blitz Pick Up
« on: September 27, 2011, 04:03:51 PM »
Guys,

I am struggling with the O line picking up blitzing linebackers shooting the B-C gaps when I have the defense head up on the OG and OT. We are using GOL playside and GL, GDL backside.

               T    G    C    G    T
                  S                 W

Sam and Will are shooting between and breaking up plays. I was running lots of 25 and 26ís out of regular splits when this happened. After reading the DCWT manual again I should have gone mini splits to help.

Is there anything else I can do. Iím learning slowly

Thanks
Rob

the manual describes various fronts your line should be practicing against.  Any defender shooting C is not blocked by your o-line

The problem is your G/T are not stepping with their playside foot 1st.  If they did that they would be half way in th B Gap making the area too small for a backer to blitz through if their head up defender engaged them, or picking up the blitz if he slanted away.  Check to see if your lineman chase, it's a no-no.

If they're blitzing "B" gaps, go "Trips, Mini, Jet 17 Power".

Next play they won't be blitzing.
