DC Wing T 7u success
« on: August 20, 2017, 09:27:04 PM »
We played 2 games in a jamboree over the weekend with great success 5 TD's in our first game 3 in our second against a tougher opponent. We hit em with 47 speed from the get go and it went for 6 30 yards out. I'm not going to lie at the beginning of the season I started to install the double wing but realized I had way too many skilled players IMO to run an offense the had 3 backs. I know there will be opposing views on this but I can only tell you from my experience with 7 year olds that it wouldn't have been easy to teach 4 different players how to take a toss from motion at this age. I can teach 2 7's but not 4. Not in the time I was given. If I were coaching 9 or 10 year olds I would have no problem doing so. It's way easier to teach young players to take a hand off from jet motion and one or two really skilled boys that just turned 8 to take a toss. One of the main reasons I love this offense is the play calling I can call plays on the fly in the huddle ( which I did)  most of my players get it because they all no their positions and the hole numbers. I need to work on the off tackle plays because our blocking was poor. 10 Wedge got 10 yards 38 toss got 10 to 20 yards a pop 56 reverse got over 20 and 47 speed was close to a TD every time. We played a team that stacked to our right side so we had to go left and it still worked. I'll add more later.

Great job coach

I only have opne word of advice on the 47 speed being a TD almost every time

Don't run it a lot like once maybe twice a game. Teams that are good will figure out how to stop it and you wont like the adjustments they make defensively to stop it. As long as the threat is there you will be good.

Add Yo-yo and left 32 trap for later You want your counters for playoffs. Don't show em whats coming.

With this age I used wedge blocking for all my plays till about mid season.
Robert

2 Things my offense will always have is a Wing and a Wedge

Yep. Only ran it 3 times the last game. I try to mainly use it to set up reverse. I'm not used to it working so well..
