Maxi Splits
« on: August 15, 2017, 09:24:13 AM »
Manual recommends Maxi splits when we see even-tech defenders.  Any tip/tricks for determining this?  Are there certain defenses that base out of even-techs?  Or is more trial-by-error on play calling to figure it out?  I am fairly use to counting defenders in the box, but reading techs is new to me.

I hate using techs when hearing stuff or trying to explain because most have the seven tech as outside shoulder of the TE and some have it as inside shoulder of TE.

I use maxi when the defense tends to move with my O linemen, when I want to run inside it just gives more space
I love what clark has done with the line because of the accordion effect. You can open up or go mini and no one realizes its happening, especially from the sidelines.

Mini for sweeps and wedge and maxi for running inside
I hope this helps

I can rarely tell from sideline. I count the box first couple of plays and teach my OG what a 1/2 tech is and OT knows what a 3/4/5 tech is.  After first play from scrimmage, they'll tell me.  Then we can also talk on sideline between a series.

I scouted my opponents from the end zone.  That allows you to see the techs.  Like you, I can't spot them from the sideline.  Your "stack" defenses use even techs though.
