Mini 47 Speed Problem
« on: September 29, 2011, 08:47:48 AM »
First scrimmage and 47 speed got us maybe 5 yards the first time I ran it. We went 'mini', but the defense did not adjust. They maintained their original positions. This caused their Right DE and DT to stick out past the LT. On my second attempt when my LG and LT pulled, my HB made the block on the DE but their DT made a tackle in the backfield.  :'(

Tried to fix this in practice yesterday. I thought maybe my WB was slowing down too much at the hand-off. That wasn't the problem-my WB is a speedster and did not slow down. The WB is getting the hand-off just in time. Surprisingly, the DT was still able to make the tackle in the backfield when my LG and LT pulled.

Is the problem that my LG did not pull across the face of the DG and DT on his way to W?

your LG MUST cross the face of the DT

1. So the lg pulling across the face of the dt should get in the way of the dt making a tackle?
2. The wb is about at rt when the ball is snapped.
3. For mini 23 power, could I call a cross block? Would wb go through first and then hb?

Your handoff is probably to shallow. If it's deep enough the DT shouldn't reach him. Our handoff depth is about the same depth as the HB alignment. QB must put foot back to get depth.

1. Yes
2. Perfect
3. If you call cross, go to slot or the HB will need to take a quick buck step or he will run into the cross block. WB should go first as this power will use the Jet motion. Unless the HB is in slot. Then the WB will turn upfield right off the hind end of the HB into the DE.

BOTH LT and LG must pull across the front of the DT.

Then they pass BEHIND the DE.

No.
You already have the WB kicking out on "23 Power".  Why do you need LG kicking out too?
