No Backup QB?
« on: October 03, 2011, 01:24:52 PM »
I just thought I would share this.
I was asked to come help a 8/9 team this week.  They had already been running the DCWT, but first  year with the Offense. So , with two days of practice we cleaned up a bunch of small stuff and we were ready for the game.

The Starting QB turns up sick on game day.  No backup QB either, well now what?
We had almost 2 hours until game time, call up the TE who has never even taken a snap.
(I don't want to move HB/WB/ FB around).

It takes me two hours and I have about 1/2 the snaps good the other 1/2 are fumbles.
I move on and install 23/24/25/26.  Then 47 speed, 48 speed, QB wedge and Super Power wedge.
Seriously, two  hours. Mind you its not perfect, but the kid is smart and is catching on.

Game time is here, HC looks at me asks if we are ready to go, I tell him to pray :-X
We kick, they fumble, our ball.
1st play I call 25 Power, we fumble the hand off,  Second play I call 25 again, we fumble. Third play I'm thinking minimize hand offs, I call QB Wedge.  We score from our own 20. This kid is ecstatic.

Now the best part.... before the game started I told the QB , bad stuff will happen and fumbles will happen and you have to decide what to do on you own.  This kid is 9 or maybe even 8, I don't even know. This somehow stuck.

I call 25 Power , we fumble the snap, kid immediately picks up the ball and runs it in for the extra point.
Best advice ever, I have used many times. Extra point turns out to the be game winner.

Anyway, we have a see-saw defensive battle after that, we win the game 8-6.  QB actually gets better as the game goes along and we can move the ball, just cannot sustain long drives. We had a long 47 speed play and he executed it perfectly.  26 and 25 worked when we got the handoff, again 50%, but not bad.

 :o

Still , what a riot!   This was actually pretty fun challenge with a QB that has been trained in two hours. Shows you what you can do with the DCWT!!!
