Pass Blocking
« on: August 04, 2017, 12:16:05 PM »
I am concerned about pass blocking as described in the manual.  We will see alot of 6 man boxes(DC's definition).  With 6 man box, my concern has to do with the backside as it looks to me like we don't have the enough blockers with LT/LG blocking 3 defenders not including potential blitz pickup.  Where possible, I prefer to stick to a rule regardless of the defensive front.  What have other's done with backside blocking?  Or am I missing something?

No.  You're not missing anything except LT, LG, and Center block those 3 defenders on the left on "Pass Right".  RG can look for blitzer first and then step behind the center if no blitzer shows and pick up an backside leaks.   Otherwise, from the manual:

"A “six man box” is considered to be a “walled city”.  They have more defenders than we have linemen.  It is generally not to our advantage to attack a “walled city” but to go to “mini” splits against the blitz and run around it."

If they play two DE's outside the box and blitz both LB's, they're bringing 8 guys to our Max 7 blockers.  So we have to go "mini" and hope for a pile up if they bring both LB's.  Solution:  Call "Trips".  They need all five DB's including both LB's to cover those 5 receivers.  No has QB.  Run "QB Trap Draw" if no LBers or screens if they keep one in.  You can play the HB at QB if you want.  No one has him.

I believe you have the Option DVD.  A six man box cannot cover Option.
