Double Wing in Orlando (8A Level), Need Coaches
« on: February 10, 2018, 05:05:24 PM »
Hello.  I am the new head football coach at Cypress Creek High School in Orlando.  This past year I was the DC.  However, I will now be taking over the Offense.  I have a very unique offense which is double wing influenced.  I started running the double wing in 2000.  Since then have evolved it over the years.  Majority of the offense will be run out of shotgun, all blocking schemes are Double Wing/Wing T.  Will use multiple formations along with the Double TE set.  Blocking Schemes we will use Power (Pulling Backside Guard and TE), GO Down (Buck Sweep), G Reach, Counter, Trap, and Wedge.

Right now, only have volunteer positions.  We have great kids, and great facilities.  Need OCs for Freshman and JV level.  So if you love Double Wing/Wing T football please give me your information, I would love to talk with you.

My dream job...but about 2 years too early. Retirement isn't until 2020

Good luck Coach!

Need OCs for Freshman and JV level.

How much freedom does the OC have?

That would depend on the quality of the coach and what you wanted to run.  For example, if you wanted to run the kids under center, and run pure double wing, that could be done.  Because it would feed in to what the varsity is doing.

Seen them before. We had a 5a running it for a while locally. Heck, we have sw so why not. Plus coach seems like he is multi-dimensional with it. It would seem like most will just think he is running something like Malzahn's offense or a shot gun wt.

The talent level in 8a Orlando is only matched by a handful of areas nationally. I would be interested to see how it would do. Especially with the all out recruitment wars going on across the state.

No one will run it at a top school for fear of kids transferring. You might see it run at a perennial loser though where the coach doesn't have to worry about keeping top athletes.

What I am saying is that if it looks something closer to Murph's or Cox's stuff few will know it's dw. In a shotgun formation he probably passes more than "normal" dw teams. If not, well that is a tough road to tread in spread happy 8a Florida football. Then again, Apopka runs somethinv very similar.

Yes we plan on being multi-dimensional with the offense.  Just have to be smart about it and manage the game.  We will not have a lot of depth and will have several kids going both ways.  Historically, Cypress Creek has not had a lot of success.  If we can control the clock and limit turnovers, we will be extremely competitive.

Since both of these aspects are more controllable by you than your opponent, you should be extremely competitive.  Look forward to reading about your process.

I only know of one team that ran some version of DW and they are traditionally  terrible. Might get better now that they have a new HC and staff but I am not counting on it.

If they have a new header, what makes you think they'll continue on with the same scheme, especially if they're "traditionally terrible?"

They have a new HC and from what I hear he is supposed to be bringing over the offense he ran at his previous school. Then again the school he is coming from had a 5 star RB so I doubt it mattered what they ran, lol. For the record, he is coming from a Wing-T school. Which is also pretty rare in Florida.

True wing t, true dw, true sw, they are all rare everywhere in hs ball. But many schools run variants and do well. I just refuse to blame wins and losses on sound schemes. What he is running on defense will really determine his success. Can you slow down the 50pt per game offenses you run into in Orlando. Dr. Phillips is one of the best  defenses in the state, if not the nation, the last two years and even they had some hard times keeping scores low.
