Yesterday, Coach W and I met with the complete football staff (header and 4 ACs), the Principal and the AD.  This was our third meeting there this week.  We spoke for about an hour.  Afterwards, I was told by the header that he would contact us and this morning he sent me a text that they would not be offering.  On to the next thing... :)

I'm sorry to hear this. I will just say that all this texting is unprofessional. He should have called to let you know. The last three head football coaches I worked for all called me or came to me in person asking me about working for them. It says something if you can not talk to a person. Its as a teacher I have parents write me, I write them back and tell them to call me. I never get a phone call. I know we have to get with the times, but people need to talk face to face. At least they interviewed Dave and gave you a chance. Having been a veteran of the Triangle Football area I know there are lots of HS's that need Dave to come in. Good luck, you will do great where ever you are.

Dave , I'm sorry I just don't get it. Why would they bring you guys down three times and say basically say forget it?
I have my theory , is probably not you it the double wing period. But what do I know. I know this I've only been running it for three years , and the crap we hear is crazy. Anyway their lose !! Good luck Coach. Something will work out for the best!

They don't realize that everyone who turns down DP has a terrible season the very next season. I guarantee they don't have a winning record.

At least the last four seasons there were teams playing down at Ford Field that had players that originally started in my kids school district.  But now they are playing for other teams, which means they are attending a different school, so it also hurts on "Count Day" so the school is losing funding.  The only difference is that those schools are always competitive and almost always in the playoffs. My kids school, One playoff appearance since 1998, and barely competitive.

Maybe wins aren't the deciding factor, but many of the things that the schools who win do that leads to wins are the deciding factor.  It always amazes me when people somehow think that winning is a negative side effect of a good program.

That speaks volumes to what the principle is thinking

Success isn't his priority. Its good to know you dodged a bullet with this one.

When you first posted about this, the first thing I thought was they were trying to get your knowledge of the DW and you may have clinic'd them. Its not like they can take a formation and keep your approach. They wont even know how to diagnose whats wrong.

I would be interested to see what offense they "Try" this year

I told him that our success was a by-product of our approach.  He told me that he already had a good staff and that he didn't need us, that he was fine with who they had.  He said this at the meeting.

Not exactly sure what that means.  Except to say we get what we get, with what we got, and that's OK.  I had a longwinded discussion with another on a different Web Board.  HS Team had just jumped Conferences from a fairly elite one here in our neck of the woods.  They had like 15 Wins over the last 20 years. Running clock in damned near every game!  4 coaches in 5 years, blah, blah, blah.  He said the School would be happy of they won 3 games a season.  So they Jumped and have won 8 games in the last 2 seasons.  Still he bitches!  Yet participation is up as is game attendance!  I just don't get the "Status Quo" if no one cares or shows up but parents.  If kids don't come out for the program.....etc.  Hell there are programs failing all over and yet some still don't get it.  Heard of a Coach who resigned after 2 years.  Kids wouldn't show to practice, failing, etc.  They (Parents) ran the guy off for being too much of a disciplinarian!  That came from a parent of a player!  So a statement such as this Dumbfounds me.  :)

Dave a few principals I have worked under...or have tried to work under, seem annoyed by folks who one way or another maybe  indicate they can do a better job. Ie more than once principal has made this comment “ everyone thinks they can coach football” so perhaps you weren’t the first couple of guys who inquired about a position....or THE position...

The staff may be meeting the mission statement of the school without scoreboard results.....and in some places that’s ok....at least for awhile.
