No, it was not about preserving the shut out...points don't matter now as we are in the playoffs...its all win or go home...

They have 2 homerun hitters...when we played them earlier this season, they scored on a fifty some yard play and a 30 some yard play, and the first play from scrimmage they ran was 70 something, but it got called back...I honestly did not want to give them the ball back and have them score quickly, get a bad bounce on an onside kick etc...the other times we have beaten this team we had them 20 to zip, 22 to zip, 24 to zip and when it was time to kneel, we kneeled :) when it wasn't yet time to kneel, we played football...

I have kneeled the ball first and goal, because it was time to kneel...

And yes, we have a kid who can kick a 30+ yard FG :) he hit a 26 yarder in OT earlier this season to win the game...trust me, this has absolutely nothing to do with me, other than teaching my short snapper how to snap and my holder how to catch the snap and get it down quickly...I know nothing about kicking...other than you should do it with your foot...

Then there’s really nothing to sweat about. As long as you know you did it for the right reasons, what the other guy thinks is irrelevant.
It's all about having fun.  But losing aint fun!

I wont forget that act. I have 6 years to get back at him....and trust me I will.  ;)

I find it best to remove the adults as much from the equation as possible.  I get your urge for revenge, but it aint about us as coaches.  Whenever you think about this coach and revenge, you could be thinking about your players and what you can do for them.

Oh... I was thinking more along the lines of taking him to lunch and slipping him a laxative of some kind.  8)

What it comes down to is, if you're willing to get in a fight, you can't complain when you get your butt kicked.  I was never aware that the rules (spoken or unspoken) included "it's okay to beat me, just as long as you don't beat me too badly."  If you can't take the whuppin' in the first place, then don't coach.  We're supposed to think that football is teaching our kids great "life lessons" such as getting back up, after getting knocked down.  But some coaches would rather complain about how they got knocked down and whether it was in a manner that they (as judge & jury) approved of.  You don't get to choose or dictate how you get beat.  It part and parcel of this game.  It's part and parcel of life.  If it's not for you, then grieve someplace else.

I've never seen a group of men who were so afraid of everything this game offers:  They choose weaker schedules, weaker divisions to compete in, insist on Slaughter Rules, change the rules so that they can assure themselves they can't be outcoached since they have no idea how to teach a Center/QB exchange and on and on...
Leave the game to men who aren't afraid of the result of the game.

I am not afraid.  It's just not fun anymore playing my 594 enrollment 2A middle school team against the 6A 1800+ enrollment middle school that beat us 54-0 four weeks ago.  What little ego I used to have is gone.

It did crack me up...I shared with two of my confidants (my OC and DC) that he did that, their reaction was the same as yours....and honestly, the only thing I learned from this was that my team was so much better than his...and our uniforms are much much cooler  :P

Naw  Classless is pulling all the Clean Jerseys out, reading them the riot act because they let the other team score, and putting the Starters back in with 2:00 minutes left and up 48-6

Who cares?  The result is the win or loss, not the amount of the win or loss.  I have no more right to tell another coach how to coach against me, than he does telling me how to coach against him.

Wow!  That makes me feel awful for complaining about my schedule.  At least I am happy about Ezekiel Elliot not playing tonight.  Was worried.

We went from zero wins year 1 to 4 wins the following year. We have very little skill, but we play like the Bad Boy Pistons. We’re easily the most physical team. We bump & hit anything moving. Last year we had a game where we were in the double bonus in fouls in the 1st quarter. A proud day for me ;-) We won that game too.

Nathan, I get that.  But that sounds like a scheduling issue as there's nothing wrong with wanting a "level playing field."  But your issue may not be "scheduling."  It may be that reality dictates who you have to schedule.  And there may be no getting around scheduling the 6A giant.

For four years, I coached at the 10th smallest high school program in the state.  We had approximately 22 players on the Varsity and no JV team.  Sometimes we played against a Varsity team.  Sometimes we played against a JV team.  That was up to our opponent.  But most of the time, it was against a Varsity opponent.  And it was rough, especially since we had no weight room in Year 1 and 2.  And then had to use a small classroom as a weight room on Year 3.  There was no way we could fit more than a few pieces of equipment in there.  Regardless, it was rough.  But that was the price of admission.  We either played football on that very uneven playing field, or we didn't play at all.  We chose to play.  And the result was the result.  And it was often ugly.

So if it's too rough, or discouraging, or painful, we have two choices: Get better or don't coach.  But don't whine about your opponent because there's nothing you can do about them or how they run their team.
