Now that I'm in the area, I thought there should be a natural rivalry between teams (competing in anything) from Hershey, Penna. & Hackettstown, NJ (where the Mars chocolate plant is).  A bit of traveling, but would be worth it for a Chocolate Series; a few yrs. of that, & everybody'd forget about Phillipsurg-Easton.  An AHL team already was the Hershey B'ars.  Hackettstown could have Martians; who could resist a sports headline, "Hershey Kisses Martians"?  M&M Wrappers might be a good team name, but how many people would get the reference to Eminem Rappers?

The Bronx Warriors club I coached in 2010-16 had an Indian theme, hence a lot of teams with Indian names.  A lot of their team names (Indian or otherwise) had been absorbed over decades from other local club teams that folded as independent entities.  When I told a friend that we'd just beaten the Ramblers (one of the teams with names thusly derived), he asked, "Who do you play next, the Studebakers?"

This reminds me of a MS in our area.  Their mascot is a Bear, but they are the "Bars."

There were a couple of lazy names in my hometown growing up

Dollar Bay Bays
Lake Linden Lakes

Just plain old laziness.

Our org is the Ramblers, its a nod to the AMC plant that used to be here that made them.  I was never a fan of the name.  Kids have no idea what it means.  Its hard to riff of it other than lets get ready to ramble.... which still sounds awkward.

I always thought the craziest HS mascot was "The Criminals" from Yuma high school. They run out onto the field along with 2 police cars with their sirens blaring...

In the 90's, I whored on a rugby team called the Newark Riot and, in law school, I played on the Fingerbangers.

I once coached an 8U flag football team called The Horror.  They were bad to the bone.  :D

I shot darts on a team named DILLIGAF. I am sure you can figure out what it's an acronym for.

The first team I ever played for was the Ramblers. All the teams in our org had names that started with the letter R.
