redshirts great, more time to grow, more time to lift, more time to get smarter, more time for degrees.

Awesome to hear about the random text from the coach.

I have never been able to find a downside to red shirting. Itís like an entire yearís worth of a dress rehearsal with zero pressure or consequence. Itís like stealing time!

So they had their season opener last night...heavily favored...

The non travel guys were told to go to the student section in their jerseys and make sure the student section was loud...He went and hung out with some sorority girls, got two numbers :P no official word if the student section was loud or not.

New QB, Sophomore (not a true sophomore), first start...the DC went UIW, so new DC, got here after spring ball...

Opening with a Conference Game against TAMUK...Lions are heavily favored over the Javelinas (some kind of mean pig)...game is on ESPN 3 (who did a terrible job with the broadcast)...

Sloppy play by both teams in the first quarter, ends scoreless.  Second Quarter, Lions continue to play sloppy football on offense...they go into the half trailing 13-0.

Second half, Lions take the kick, good return, first play from scrimmage, their back puts the ball on the carpet, never seen the rest of the game....the piggies take the ball and kick a FG, 16-0.

Lions come roaring back (sorry, couldn't resist)...they are in field goal range to tie it with 20 seconds left, down 23-20...they make the FG, OT. First OT, both teams score and convert. Second OT, the piggies score, botch the snap (second botch of the game) 36-30. Lions take the ball, get a first down inside the 10, then get stuffed on 3 consecutive plays...4th and goal from the 8...they run double slants and score, kick the PAT and win 37-36.

The Lions Oline struggled in the first half, so...they decieded they would have the scout team guys "learn" the bad guys defense so they could give a better look. Tomorrow morning, they are in the film room to learn :)
None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.
