Hudl Screw Job
« on: August 26, 2017, 10:24:52 AM »
So I received an lengthy email from Hudl with the following excerpt:

"Wake County Football Coaches,

Hudl is excited to announce that all Wake County football teams will be receiving our Hudl Assist Game Breakdown package at no charge for the 2017 season! This is made possible by the school districtís partnership with National Amateur Sports.
"

If you have questions, the email goes on to read, "Call me if you want to know how we do that" and finishes with "Please reply directly to me via email, or give me a call to walk through it at 402-740-8199."

So I call the guy who sent me the email ("Mark Ciriaco").  I called him twice to ask about the specifics of how "Assist" works.  He never returned the calls.  (Not that I was surprised.)  I also called Hudl "Support" ("Cameron Holmes") and asked him about the email offer, of which he knew nothing about.  I forwarded the email to him and he said he would find out about this and call me back (which he didn't).  A second phone call (with "Ian Jordan") garnered the same thing: he knew nothing about it.  I also forwarded him the email, but this "Ian Jordan" guy told me how Assist worked, that we were lucky to have "National Amateur Sports" pay for it and that I would have it.

So today I'm ready to send my footage to Assist, but don't see how to do it.  So I call to ask.  The support guy says we don't have access to that service.  I mention the email, read it to him, and he says it doesn't include us because we're not a Varsity football program.  I said the email says "all" Wake County football teams, doesn't refer to "Varsity" or "JV" and that the email was sent to me by Hudl.  I asked him why Hudl would send me an email telling me that I had their service for free, if I didn't have it for free?  He said that JV isn't included.  The email doesn't state that.  It says "all Wake County football teams will be receiving" this.  Why email me and tell me I'm included, if I'm not?  Why not return a phone call when you say that you're going to?   Why ask me to call you if you have no plans to take or return the call?  The reason of course, is simple.  Hudl doesn't stand behind their product or their claims.

not sure what you guys have to do with your school size, we use HUDL and I upload varsity, jv, freshman, scrimmage, practices and so on right in the same library.   we have the bottom line cheapo package.

in fact, I was paying 800 a year, I think its down to 300 a year because our lax, basketball and hockey are giving it a whirl too.

Hudl or a subcontractor with them was suppose to show up and film our youth game on Saturday and no-showed....

From our County Director:

"Hudl Update: Christopher and I contacted Hudl three times, on July 18th, August 2nd and August 23rd , requesting that all of our away games on August 26th be recorded; see emails below.

They failed to record some of our Opening Day games.  I am obviously extremely unhappy and am dealing with them on the phone as we speak.
Leisure Services will pay Hudl to record all home games."

This is what happens when someone corners a market like this...  They know you will want to use Hudl because everyone else is using it for trading game film, the convenience there is ridiculous for that.

Having my own bout of nonsense with HUDL.  Traditionally our program foots the bill for HUDL, appears that some coaches contacted HUDL and had additional things added without consent of the corporation and now HUDL wants $$$$$ when the charges were incurred by individuals not the program.  Fun times.
If you show up for a fair fight, you are unprepared.

Yes.. last year I think they added a link to HUDL Assist and Playbook... too easy to click on to thinking you have the tools but you are adding them to your service when you do so.
