The one with better people.

Defenses that are more physical, bigger, faster, stronger at most positions.  They make us execute flawlessly, grind and slowly move the ball down the field. We may fumble or get a penalty and then we are stopped.

There has never been ONE alignment that has bothered us. We might get stuffed by a 52 team who is loaded with talent and the next week, the team we face tries to copy that defense and we lay 40 or 50 on them. Its not the alignment.

I so hope thats true cause our biggest threat runs a 4-4 and they read and react very well. But they havelost to the DW everytime they face it either in regional play or in Disney.

There is no specific front that is going to cause you issues.  It is more about the number of superior athletes, how they execute their defense, and how they adapt to what you are doing.

If a defense has 11 superior athletes compared to your offense and they execute their defense well...you are probably in for a long day and will have to get the most you can out of your offense execution wise.

I ran the DW and never had a problem with defending a DW team. We just ran a 5-6 and stayed home. 98% of DW teams never throw. However I always felt that any Offense that executes well can beat any Defense, and vice versa.

...and you need some athletes. Athletes are playmakers, guys that make something out of nothing. If you dont have them, every mistake is magnified times ten. You need playmakers.

:D Coachnick, they were very good DW Coaches. I have seen many of the so called "GURU" DW coaches get their Butts kicked over the last 5 years. It Happens.

Hey I love the DW, but like any offense you can stop it.

You are correct, better people will stop the offense - I can tell you first hand that 155 lb guards that run 5.5 do not match up well with 230 lb safety types who run 4.6- we can talk all we want about the scheme but ultimately, sooner or later size, speed, strength, experience, desire, attitude and WANT TO come into play.  Little freshmen and sophs vs all league seniors is a mismatch regardless of the offensive scheme.

The double wing schemes offer many great things, angles, double teams, leverage, conflict, series football, overworked defenders, short pulls, numbers advantages, simplicity, team work, an identity...but it does not solve the very basic problems of your jimmy vs their joe.  You need to win the MAJORITY of those battles or you will be in for a long day.

This is the reason we, as football coaches, put so much emphasis on weight training and conditioning and toughness drills. We are all trying to make our jimmies and joes better than someone elses jimmies and joes.  Its the reason why there are college scholarships and an nfl draft and free agents getting big bucks.

You need playmakers ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL or every mistake is magnified.

Ive run the DW, Im a fan and student of the offense

Lots of 230 lb 4.6 safety type kids in Maine in schools with 200-500 kids in the school- really? Ive got to tell my friends over at NU to start heading up that way if that isnt an exaggeration  ;)

Let me introduce you to a one man wrecking crew. This kid played safety vs us and we got blown up a few times at the point of attack as hed throw his body into the pass of pullers.  we beat Yarmouth in 2008 in a thriller, but they crushed us in 09. Not even a contest. The difference was the speed and strength of their seniors vs our younger kids.

The double wing allowed us to move the ball at will vs their JVs but not vs their varsity.

not sure if this news coverage has photos of the kids, but check out the size of #33 and #44 on Old Orchard Beach.

yarmouth and old orchard had skill position players bigger than my biggest lineman. there are some horses, even in class c football. OOBS two lbers will both play division II football. We also beat them (52-44) in 08 and they made short work of us in 09.

so yes, Cisar, there are plenty of big boys in class C football and it does make a difference.

Calande,

A true 4.6 230 lb super stud man child- the DI Guys are going to find him- they are very uncommon- Heck- NU recruits Canada

Do you guys see a few good players with good size- probably
Not across the board in small school Maine football is my guess

The DW does a nice job of evening the playing field out a bit
Most 1 man teams arent dominating- even here at the 8 man level- 120 students- teams suiting up 20-50 kids
