Love the Shoot
« on: September 04, 2010, 12:51:55 PM »
Played our first game today running the Run and Shoot. We lost 20-12 on what i thought was a hose job by the officials. My slot motioned to trips right and ran a slide route for a 75 yard td. 2flags on the play, 1 for the ref saying my slot was on the line before he motioned which to me was rediculous since he motioned straight across and the other was for my boy doing a Reggie Bush flip into the endzone. Ill take that one, but the other nearly set me off. The defense gave up 3 quick scores as my 2 best lbs didnt show but we fought our way back and made it a game. They had no answer for our passing game when the protection and snap were good. 2 missing kids are also my center and lg. Overall i felt good about the offense as my wrs were makin their reads and my qb was killin the d with his arm and his feet.lots of work to do up front this week, good thing it was just a jamboree and didnt count towards the season

I imagine that this offense will get better and better with time.

Thats a scary thought. But i hope we conyinue to improve as we all learn more about this offense each day. I was amazed at how it opens up the secondary

We may go gun and tweak some things in order to give my QB a better chance of survival. He can run but i dont want him being a crash test dummy. If he goes down, its gonna be a long season.

Hi Coach B, do you go no huddle with RNS?

Do you run the offense with the boys wearing wrist bands with plays on it?

My oldest boy plays HS football and a couple of teams run their O this way.
Our judgement is only as good as our information.

What version of the shoot are you running?  You said Slide so it makes be think you are running Go, Slide, Choice and Switch.  Are the kids reading it for the different adjustments?

We are running plays straight out of mouse davis' NJ Knights playbook --watered down ofcourse- and thus far it has gone well. At our age group we only see 2 coverages. So thats what the team was taught to adjust to.

We run Go,Slide,Hook and Switch with a mix of toss, dive and sprint plays to keep the defense guessing. Mouse to both sides to catch them not adjusting as most teams in our league kindof neglect their secondaries. Last team we played those poor kids just stood there, im sure it was a wakeup call for the coaches. had it not been for their 2 big boys crushing my A gaps it would have been a long day for them. We had 3 fumbled snaps -lost all 3 :( -and many times they just drove through my oline and grabbed my Qb's feet before he could secure the snap and drop back. Thats on me, i should have had them ready to adjust to the gun but teaching the route breaks is very time consuming so thats what we worked on most. We will be ready this week when it counts.

Would love to see film of this at some point.  I spent a couple of days with Manney Mataksi (sp) learning his triple shoot.  It is the run and shoot much like Davis's version with the fly running game.  He uses the gun sometimes and they used the same sort of backout and slide drops in their gun as does June Jones

I have some parents who video the games, ill see if i can get some footage of each play posted. Sadly with just having put my 2 kids in private school i cant afford my own recorder this year. Ill continue to post our progress, the good, the bad and the ugly

I was close to offering a sort of cash reward to anyone who had footage of the play that was called back in our last game. But now that i have calmed down i dont want to see it. I know we were shafted and if i had proof it would get ugly as i would demand a meeting with the head of officiating for our league. So ill let it go and move on, i told my players we have to make sure that we play our best so the game is in our hands and not to be decided by others. That play hurt but others were there had we executed that also could have won it for us.
