Best defense to stop this offense
« on: September 07, 2010, 08:43:59 AM »
Been watching film of an upcoming opponent and we typically run a WT 6-2 but would like to know if there is a better option for this game. This is their bread and butter play with some offshoots.

          O             OOXOOO
                              O         O
                              O
                              O

80% of the time they run to the power side(mostly off tackle) WB simply turns on snap and blocks DE with FB leading into the hole and RB getting the handoff. Sometimes out of this formation the QB will keep after fake and sometimes the WB will get the handoff coming to the left side with the FB and RB lead blocking if you overshift. Almost no passing except 1 HB pass.

They will sometimes lineup like this:

                         OOOXOO          O
                       O       O
                                   O  O
and usually end up running left of course.

I would play right into their hands. Create a Shift right or shift left call and do that to them all game long. Have your weak side linebacker key the QB and wing back. Have your strong side linebacker key the HB. Have the DEs key the fullback to shut down any off tackles, boots or reverses coming their way.
