In your world...not mine. Everything is absolute so that is the way I am.

Are you self employed? I am and am one cut throat SOB for it.

Coach Mike

I hear what you're saying, but the fact is, the business world is about results, not details.  Sometimes that entails different arrangements depending on priorities.

Being in business for yourself, you have more of an opportunity to decide where you're drawing lines.  I don't have that luxury, I have other factors that aren't my choice that I have to balance.

But I can more easily see the argument working with kids where fairness is more of a consideration.

What type of work do you do, coach?

Architect...or should I say Construction.

You should be a politician.

I would really suck at that for sure.

Damn dude, that's just harsh.  Why you gotta do me like that?

LOL - I don't have the patience.  At all.  I just shut my door and rage, then open it and do what I have to do.  But seriously, it's not THAT bad.  I'm just saying it's situational.  The larger the stakes, or the larger the precedent, the less flexibility you have, but in a case like this, IMO you can review the circumstances and do what you think fits.

I'm in a profession that's often derided as being "the policy police", and stereotyped as the unfeeling automaton/wet blanket.  That's when we're not called noodle soft touchy feely space cadets, LOL.  As I've said before - God gave me a brain, I prefer to use it and figure out each situation based on the individual merits.  I don't have a problem with those who stand on principle, and in some situations I may do the same.  Just not in this case.

And now that he has made that team...congrats by the way... are they pressing on you to do the unthinkable yet?

Coach Mike

Thank you and absolutely not.  Tonight, the org director was running practice (rare in ice hockey circles).  Due to football, Jr took the ice 20 minutes late.  After practice, Jr went to the director and apologized for being late due to football (I had already emailed everyone to remind them) and thanked him for taking the time to coach.  The director told him he was impressed that he would come to hockey directly after football.  Like I said, he'll miss a hockey game if it conflicts with a football practice.

That makes sense. I can see why commitment to a contract is important in architecture/construction.

So what profession is that. Sorry if I'm being nosy by the way. I just find the context interesting.
