Anyone ever face a 10 man front? How would you attack it?
« on: September 07, 2010, 03:59:09 PM »
The team we face this week use to be known for their tough 6-2 D, now I hear, due to tackling problems, they are running a 10 man front with only a FS 5 yards back.

How would you attack this front?  We are a watered down Power T team as our Power to the 6 hole and Counter to the 3 hole are our bread and butter plays.

Sounds like they went to the GAM.. I never faced it but heard you have to hit them off tackle.

With a wishbone, just go off tackle and up the gut. If they're truly blitzing 10, then let them run right past you.

Another idea is to do a delayed pitch. Have the QB drop back like a pass, then set up the screen to the right and just have him flick it when the DEs get there.

We do have a TE pass in place in which the TE takes two quick steps and slants to the sidelines.  We do have our # 4 back out wide who does a post to draw the CB + FS, which opens up the slot for the TE. QB takes a quick 3 drop step and throws.

In this coverage, I would assume he will be wide open?

Well, that's the question. They're probably not blitzing everyone, so he's probably being covered man on man.

My suggestion was to throw a screen pass, if you're able to. I couldn't get it to work. The key to this is that their lineman chase your QB, and then he pitches it about 7 yards over to his lineman. The QB blocks everyone who is rushing with this. And the lineman can block anyone who is sitting back because they let their lineman go.

Check out 7:08. That's ideally what would happen, and it's pretty easy to do from a double tight, too, but it's easier from spread. You can easily do this with your TE. Have the backs all run in one direction, then dump it to the TE on the other side. Lineman lead the way.
