Tips for Defending Single Wing Spinner
« on: September 26, 2010, 07:43:59 PM »
K guys. Made it through the last game with a win in double OT 6-0!

Now for the next game. We are facing a single wing spinner offense that passes a fair amount.

Any tips using the DC 4-3 against it?

Thanks a Bunch
Rob

Make sure they understand the shift due to unbalanced, and make sure they understand that the wing is covered by a safety.

What I would do is leave the #3 QB blocking back uncovered, but I would have the OLBs key him instead of guards. Have the MLB play the 2 back, and the weak safety play the 1 back. This way you will take away their strongest plays. Then they'll be forced to run up the middle on you.

I've sent you both my suggestion.  Solly, you will need to let me know if you want the "Quarters Drill".

Clark,

We have the team this Saturday that runs the UBSW. I will be running the quarters drill all week.

 Couple more questions for you.

1.   Does the SS follow WB across formation on motion?
2.   Their QB blocks backside on pass plays. Not sure what to tell M and WS. They will be going the wrong direction.

Picked up another win last Saturday, 21-7. Had another team filming us so pretty much ran the fullback second half. Did score on a Pass Left #2. They were keying on the 47 speed.

Thanks
Rob

Yes.  He does.  I've never seen motion before though from an UBSW.

Unusual!

Key WS to PG.

I need to watch more film ::) Verify the motion. I'm positive the QB blocked back side on some passes. Went out in flats on others.

We motion. T series (like Jet series), power series (note: just part of the time), and full spin.

These guys definately motion. They usually faked to him on motion left on the spin and swept right, but they could hand it off if we ignored motion.

I think I will have my backside linebacker key the motion across.

Our full spin series is a series of now 6 plays
Our mouse moton series has 7 plays
Our Jet Series has about 7 as well

If all he has is 2 plays- make sure you practice them- get that down pat- but you need to remember he may not have shown you all he has. YOuth football- one trick ponys- 2 play series = not so good

Thanks Dave. Didn't mean to mislead anyone. They have a bunch of plays out of the UBSW with different outsie guy alignments.

I taped 14 of them. Some he ran several times. I am going to teach alignments, keys and discipline ???

Thanks
Rob

How did the game turn out?

Are you in the Ute Conference? What's your team? We play WFFL (up north).

If I recall correctly they beat us by a couple of touchdown. Good team. They won the championship.
Yep, were in the Ute Conference.
