QB Draw Off Weak Tackle
« on: April 07, 2010, 09:47:40 PM »
I can't think of any really good plays that run in the area where the linebacker has vacated.

The best I can come up with is QB off tackle. Basically have the FB kick out the DE, have the Strong guard pull, and have the QB do a 3 step drop, then follow the SG. If you run it out of a trips formation, it should work well.

We dive the FB there if the LB leaves.

I'm confused is that your FB or TB in the backfield (depth).

If that is your FB like Jholly says, I would dive the FB.  Or trap the DE with PSG have the PSOT block down to the DT.  Then the QB can follow the FB off the trap and make the cut off the FB's block on the LB.

FB's dont get the benefit of a block at the second level on a quick hitter.  Mano e mano.

That is my FB behind the QB (I am an old FB and that is what I call the position).  You are right.  I never had somebody go after the MLB.  It was one on one with the FB AND we hoped he would have to stay kind of honest and have to make sure the QB did not have the ball.

Thanks bill.

I just had an idea, too!

Say you line up like with you slot inside.

.................x..........x.......x
.................x
o.o.o.0.o.o...........o
.................o.................o

Then the slot goes in motion toward the two receivers. If the inside linebacker follows, the QB runs off tackle. If the ILB doesn't follow, the QB throws the bubble screen to the flanker. The SE and Slot block the OLB and corner.

The teams of the early 90's that ran this offense had there best sucess by not changing the formation.

If you lokk at Bill's second play, the QB simply follows the FB, a play borrowed from Navy.  It requires no brains and no formation chane.

If you change the formation than you need more than one play from that formation.

Isn't that the original formation?

I think he means by motioning the slot OUT, you have a new formation.

I have just reviewed this manual....my take is you pass first run second so when you run the lbs are back...so why wouldnt the base plays be enough?

I am an old fullback that believes that you need to be able to run the ball.  I wanted a little more than the base plays just so that I had a few more options.  I wanted to be able to keep the defense off balance by having an effective running game with a high percentage passing game.

Like Jholley, I firmly believe that if your going to have a FB he better be able to do more than just block.  I want Mike or the ISLB worrying about the rampage, I need that Dive or quick hitter to work so that the other stuff works better.  IMHO you loose a dimension if all they are is a blocker.  Even if its 3 or 4 yards,  it makes the other stuff you run more apt to pop!

But I'm a crazy old fool who likes the Wishbone and thought Larry Czonka was a collision looking for some one to hit!  Sadly, with the advent of no touchy defense, the Power FB is a lost art.

Forgive my ignorance of this but you pass first run second in this offense...correct? If you more plays insert IZ and OZ
