FREE SINGLE WING PLAYBOOKS
« on: April 27, 2010, 03:22:33 PM »
Here are some free Single Wing Playbooks from some of the GREAT SW coaches in history.  No one should have to BUY playbooks, when there are so many available:

1.  PRINCETON 1940's & 1950's:

http://fastandfuriousfootball.com/collegeoffense/1940%20%20Princeton%20Single%20Wing.pdf

2.  PRINCETON 1960's

http://fastandfuriousfootball.com/collegeoffense/61_Princeton_SW.pdf

3.  Michigan 1948

http://fastandfuriousfootball.com/collegeoffense/48_Michigan_Fritz_Crisler.pdf

4.  Oregon St  (this is the balanced line SW as used by the great Bob Neyland at Tennessee, & "Red" Sanders at UCLA):

http://fastandfuriousfootball.com/collegeoffense/Oregon_State_SW.pdf

5.  Iowa St.  (ALSO the balanced line SW used by Neyland at Tennessee & Sanders at UCLA).  Perhaps the BEST SW playbook ever written.  INNOVATIVE:  Includes the SLOT series on p. 50,  the FLANKER series on p. 68, & their fabled "W" formation on p. 74.  The section on "Generalship", & "Attacking Defenses" (p. 189) is CLASSIC.

There are MANY more, when I have a chance to share!  ENJOY!

Thanks, I already have those. You can get them free.

I have one of Dave Cisars single wing books and I dont run the offense. If I did I would still go to him for information.
When a person buys a book we usually enjoy the help that is given in the diagnosis of what is happening if there are problems.

I also have Jacks Double wing,  Jack Reeds single wing, and a host of other books.
The reason I have so many books is I am an information nut and probably will never have the experiences you have with your vast coaching expertise.

Daves books also give 2 different defenses, and practice planning and alot of other help that is needed with youth coaches who dont know anything such as myself.

The only book I would give away is Reeds book :-[

I completely understand Bills point. Why pay for a "playbook" which is just a bunch of diagrams and xs and os with no explanation? Theres no coaching points or tips or "what ifs" covered....but if you buy a video and/or manual and also have ongoing support through forums, emails and phone calls....wow, you have something.

Playbooks are just that, playbooks. Kind of like watching a movie with the sound turned off.

Between Ed Racely & myself we have HUNDREDS of SW & DW videos.  Unfortunately, we can't pay the expense of copying & mailing (wish we could).  Like Steve said - FILM is where you really learn the game.

By FAR the best Single Wing BOOK ever put on the market is by Dr. Ken Kueffel:

PS:  Here is a list of great SW coaches.  You cannot get 95% of these "free" anywhere, but we have them all in Ed Racely's SW Library.

BEST DIRECT SNAP COACHES (NOT IN ANY PARTICULAR ORDER)

Pop Warner
Fielding Yost
Knute Rockne
Jock Sutherland
Bernie Bierman
Gil Dobie
Fritz Crisler
Bob Neyland
Red Sanders
Carl Snavely
Charlie Caldwell
Francis Schmidt
Dutch Meyer

(HONORABLE MENTION):  Bob Zuppke; John Heisman; A.A. Stagg; Bill Roper; Charles Daly; Percy Haughton; Matty Bell; Ray Morrison; Howard Jones; Andy Kerr; Pappy Waldorf; Dana Bible, Frank Cavanaugh; Dick Colman; Dick Harlow, Harver Harman, Bill Alexander, Lou Little, Tuss McLaughry, George Munger, Biggie Munn, Wallace Wade, Henry Williams, Tad Weiman.

Yknow, I dont even collect playbooks.  I have all that stuff from the site but dont ever refer to the playbooks. I will however go back and rewatch clinic videos or installation videos or game tapes quite often.

Honestly, how many of you have ever "learned" something from a playbook? what did you learn?

Depends on the playbook, if it has installation, and theory you can learn alot.  College playbooks are pretty thorough, they detail alot of things about coaching in gemeral....I've learned a few things

yeah thats true. I have come across a few that were MANUALS for position coaches, those things are sweet. I have also come across "playbooks" that are nothing more than backfield actions put with a variety of formations, no blocking rules, no coaching tips on timing or footwork or even explanation of theory behind the play. Imagine trying to run the double wing from the Markham power point thats floating around the net??? Youd be lost because he blocks every front completely different yet its "the same play"- thats got to be a nightmare for a newbie coach trying to learn the double wing.

I dont know anyone whos ever successfully done that with the double wing. Now though, with YOUTUBE and a playbook, I think you do increase your chances for success.

I have a pretty good stock pile of playbooks for the power t somewhere, 33 stack too....but I dont bother with them if they dont have rules, theory and tips etc.  You need all that. I do anyhow.

Playbooks are great, but never really get the complete picture, i.e., understand the nuances of the particular offense, until you talk to the coach and/or trade film. Just look at all of the DC Wing T coaches that come here and seek DC's advice...and he's got a playbook with tons of supporting information...

Heres an example of real info vs a playbook...

Get the delaware wing t playbook diagrams...just about anywhere....I mean shoot, most of us can diagram waggle, trap, buck sweep....

then go and get Creehans wing t A-Z explanation of the same series...holy toledo, the info youd be missing is nuts.

(or nuts an bolts lol)

anyhow, Creehan has a great set of books and videos on the wing t. I have devoured that along with tom Hermans wing t camp tapes and blocking manual and clinic footage....yeah, theres so much more to it than a playbook.

You know, I was thinking about getting Creehan's books. Which two books accomadate each other as far as getting started, and installing the Wing-T?

This is 100% Neyland AND Sanders.  Clay Stapleton at Iowa St PLAYED for Neyland & used his offense 100%.  Neyland was PROBABLY the most successful SW Coach in history, & I liked his BALANCED line SW MUCH better than the unbalanced SW.
