3 Phases of Blocking
1. Take off- get out of your stance. Make it fit to your offense.
Use the boards and chutes
2. Contact- explosion-aiming point, unlock hips, play low to high
3. Finish- Finish the block
Drills with the 3 Phases
Take off- Under the Chute with boards
Contact- Against sled (or man), 1 and 2 steps, roll hips and explode (no drive)
Finish- Fit and Finish- already fitted up
Alabama Run Game
1. Inside Zone- to Tight End and Split End sides
2. Out side Zone- to Tight End and Split End sides
3. Power Play-Double Team and Kick Out
4. Single Back Power-Try and get a Double Team somewhere
5. Outside Zone with Toss-Lineman first shuffle and drive block
6. Lead Draw- 2 Back
7. Strong and Weak side Counter
Avoid One-Hit wonder plays.
Zone Blocking
1. 1st step-Lateral Step
2. 2nd step-Aiming step, through outside numbers
3. After Initial Hit, it becomes a drive block
Uses #s to find out who blocks who. Center blocks 0, Guard blocks 1, Tackle blocks 2, TE blocks 3.
RB aims at B gap. Open step, crossover, then Press B gap. If someone takes away B gap, go to another gap.
His philosophy is that the further away the RBs aiming point is from the ball, the more chances for mistakes.
