DumCoach Glossary for Youth Football Coaches

Bobblehead
A young player, often so young that the helmet takes some practice to wear, and appearing like a bobblehead doll at initial practices.

DC-46
A youth level defensive system designed by Clark Wilkins based on the Chicago Bears defense installed by Buddy Ryan. Note that this is not a 4-6 defense. It is named after the jersey number of Doug Plank, a safety for the Chicago Bears. The defensive playbook is limited in its distribution.

Player Agent
A youth player's parent.

"Super Star"
A kid who does everything great in the back yard with Dad.

"Stud"
A player who is clearly a year or two ahead of his team mates

"Average Joe"
A player who is capable at his age group.

"MMP"
A player who is clearly behind his age group in skill and athleticism.

LMOLOS
Last man on the line of scrimmage

"Coach"
Loose term used to determine who Super Stars dad should yell at when his boy isnt getting the right position or playing time.  LOL

"Head Coach"
This one poses a problem.  Depending on your league, the HC is the guy who has all the connections with the board.  But, In a real world this is the person who has the experience, knowledge, and where with all to coach the assistant coaches and the entire team!

30, 40, 50 and 60 fronts.
Term used to describe the number of men on the defensive Line.

Zone or Man Coverage:
Used to describe a defensive secondary coverage scheme.

Offensive Formation
Used to describe the set for a particular play or series of plays.

Offensive Set or Philosophy
Used to describe the system on which your offense is based.

Cover1, 2 or 3,
Describes the number of men used to cover deep portion of the field.

"Daddy Coach"
May or may not describe a coach who believes his child is the "Stud" and adjusts the O or D according to his kid.

Numb Nuts!
A less colorful term used to describe anyone who would seek to be  Head Coach and has put up with the "situation" for many years!!  LOL

Confidence goes way beyond the Gridiron!  Show me a man who has never failed and I'll show you a man who has never tried anything!

Very plain and simple.......england produce more players than spain and italy combined but to be great you must be coached by good tactician coaches.
