Z

I came to the conclusion at the youth level to never lead the FB into the zone...he just gets in the way. So...we either do not incorporate a FB or he will pin the backside.

That has cleared things up for us in a big way.

against seven man front fronts, you can put him backside, not vs 8 man fronts.
Inserting the fb is no different than adding  a 2nd runner. he is there to essentially deal with #4 or whoever you decide to have help with, mike who is dislocated, strong ss, sam....corner....all pending several factors.....a note on the corner...corners in the zone world cant tackle.

I totally agree that you need a different type of Back for the Zone Concept.  I would also remind those wishing to start this adventure that the backside blocking is equally as, if not more, important than the front side blocking.  The seams/cracks are what the backs are looking for to exploit.

I think it was Rich who suggests that you not worry so much with inside or outside zone schemes, that you go ZONE across the line and make it that much more simplified for the youth game.

 :( ;)
Confidence goes way beyond the Gridiron!  Show me a man who has never failed and I'll show you a man who has never tried anything!

to go with what shad said, if you can get your kids to talk to work combinations and not chase people, and your back reading his man, you will be be a great running team. You dont need all the calls. All you really need is the iz, oz boot, naked....and a pass for both.

If you are not willing to correct your best player, tell your best player he is wrong, then dont install the zone schemes.
