if I understand your scheme, if you get what some call long sticks, or dl jumping two gaps, the defense will get a free rusher.

not familiar with a DL jumping two gaps/long sticks technique..don't they have to commit or stunt into one gap or another? Ideally with this we have all gaps covered unless the defense blitzes more than we can block..a CB for example..is this what you mean? again, I admittedly need to shore up on pass blocking so welcome all advice.

Is that pirate, or is it only pirate if a LB does it, or is pirate something else entirely?

long sticks mean that 5 tech. or a c gap player will take same side a gap.....A gap being his responsibility. the nose, 3 tech, OLb, relocated mike, sam/will  and ss or fs will replace him  and cover the b and c gaps. the ones that I am/would be worried about the outside long stick the nose or 3 tech going outside to c or d gaps.

I  THINK pirate is when the end and outside linebacker  slant down inside and the ilb or  a box safety wrap themselves around.
The idea being that  you spring the mike safety free.......and you are still ok because at worse he is contain rusher.

OK..gotcha. Yep...using Hinge you need to do a lot of reps with a lot of different stunts and blitzes thrown in and tell the kids to stay home and pick up whoever shows in their gap. What we had trouble with was our left Tackle was "chasing" a 5 tech DE stunting into B and the defense was blitzing a rover off the edge...killing our QB blindside. Luckily this was happening in practice and we had to rep/explain he only covers his area of responsibility after he hinges and does not chase the stunt, looks for LB'r or other D lineman stunting into his area of responsibility....in this case it was the job of the LG to pickup the 5 tech DE stunting into B.

what happens on the outside long sticks is the tackle will get grabbed on purpose, and the long sticker will come free. and if the tackle turns his shoulders? even if he doesnt get grabbed, he has no chance to recover.
