I always found that the limiting factor to being able to run a 43 is having a true MLB.  D you find that an issue at the youth level with this D?  Patrolling from C gap to C gap can be rough.

Does the MLB in a in a 4-3 or 5-3 have to be the fastest kid on the team, or can he be just a great tackler who pursuits and anticipates well?

He needs to match up to a FB, can he do that?

In a 4-3, I look for a middle linebacker that is physical and can read the offensive line. At our level the O-LIne tells you where the ball is going to go, if the MLB can quickly read this he will always be in the play. Our fast players play to the outside where there is running room.

The MLB in a 4-3 is never your fastest player unless he's the ONLY play you have that can stop an inside run (lead FB).

In the 53 who u put at mlb depends on your de technique.  If the play contain your mlb can be slower.  If your des play force then he has to be faster.

In killer be or dc43 the mlb is just an aggressive fb type.  Your safetys are your studs.

To me, in any defense, the better your ends the better the entire defense is.
If one of of your player say to you "i thought......" your not doing good enough as a coach.
