Need help on personnel placement
« on: November 20, 2011, 03:50:51 PM »
Hi guys, thanks so much for all the great info here.  Unfortunately, I didn't find this site until after our season ended this year, but better late than never.  It's a blast killing time on this site.

Anyhow, I'll be the DC for a 6th grade team next year, and I want to switch from our crappy 7-box style defense to the DC Pro 4-3, so I've been doing my research.  I've got MLB and WS covered.  We have one big, strong kid who can dominate just about everybody in the league on the LOS, but he's pretty slow.  Also, we have one other kid who did a really good job boxing / containing / fighting lead blocks at DE last season. I want to make sure I'm utilizing these two the best I can.  Do you have any suggestions?  Should I have these two align to the strong side of the formation / wide side of the field?

I'm really green as a coach, and I really don't have anybody to learn from in our organization, so I'm trying to become as technically proficient as I can with this defense.  I look forward to hearing what you think.

Thanks again for all you guys do on this board, it's a great service.

You may want to PM Dumcoach and talk to him about his Killer Bee defense as well. I do not believe it is free, but it seems to be a zone based 43 similar to his pro 43.

Thanks for the info guys.  I'm doing my best to talk our head coach into changing up the O (to the DC Wing-t) and the D to the DC Pro 43.  We didn't have any kind of playbook last year, and our whole staff was first-year coaches.  We had a bunch of smart kids but not great athletes, and managed to pull off a 5-3 record.  I think we can go to the next level with guidance from your manuals and this board.  I'm looking forward to picking your brains as we change systems for this next year.
