Mike said it better... As always
I enjoyed learning something ... Just isnt something ide invest time/energy in
When i ran spread we had a wildbull package but all it did was annoy me because it was useless and did nothing... We were better off running a olsy but goody
Maybe im too old school or im gettin old ha but too many coaches want to abandon whats gonna get you far, your beleifs in a system...wildcat may get you a first down, a td, or even win a game for you but its not gonna bring home post season hardware. Succesful teams leave trails to follow and the more trails i follow the more simple the football program
One thing for certain the ones that win often are very simple. This is why I love Coach Mcnew and Elrod. Both do different things, but both attacks make sense. Mcnew will kill you with bucksweep all game long. He won many of his state championships killing guys with bucksweep. Along the way he meshed all of the series in one system to keep team off balanced. When he needed a big gain he would always come with buck. He ran Wilcat, Belly, Buck, Down, Jet, Rocket, and Trap series. Then he added a Jazz series which was his spread attack. Wes like Mcnew hung his hat on Jet/Rocket instead of the traditional wing t. Over time he mixed some basic wing t along with option to his attack. In the end of speaking with them they both hung there hat on one series. Then in time they added on and made changes because good teams will catch up with you. We added Elrod's Reo/Leo that helped us get to the 2nd round of the playoffs. That one add kept them off balanced and then we went back to our base and won big. The thing I always respected about them both was they always stayed with their roots, but they made changes. They added wrinkles that they may not use often....but had those added tools to keep things fresh.
You're right and I know what you're talking about. You're not that old school but you have high principles. If you change for the sake of changing it's wrong. (I agree) If you make changes or adds to your system I think it's keeping your concepts fresh. (One of the reason why I connected with Cox so well I guess)
