Back from the clinic and it was a great one. Each speaker gave the coaches something that can help their programs no question.
Johnson- The use of shifting and formations was great. I also like his lecture on "The Hammer". The thing is that it wasn't about the play to me at all....it was the message about us being coaches. Staying true to what you feel is right for your program and staying with your concepts. Don't let other coaches or parents force you to walk away from your concepts. Always be open to learn more and not stay stuck in your ways. Attend clinics, read books, etc. do whatever to get better and learn more. Then when you hold true to your concepts the kids will buy in. Great message and his comments allowed me to see what I need to do as a coach.
Potter- This is the 2nd time I spoke with Potter and it won't be the last. His lecture on the 2pt. stance was great. This is what coming to clinics are about. Those little things like this isn't a major add, but it could be a great thing to add to your system without hurting your playbook. He also showed how this stance could enhance your blocking with our blocking rules. We did a run in the room using this new tech. and it instantly made sense.
jkolster- His 101 was a great touch. This is what every clinic should have for those that want to run a system for the 1st time. A lot of times coaches may attend a clinic for a system and it's more so for those that have been using it for a long time. His presentation was great and gave you the groud work to run DW the correct way. He also talked about the family tree of the DW so that you have more options to pick a style that fit your taste.
Austin- This is a tech. guy all the way. His detail in footwork with the DW was very good. He gives his players all kind of land marks to ensure that his movement in his DW is fluid and flawless.
Fliciano- Awwh yes... Coach Fliciano showed us his new package he will be running this season that he showed a little at the end of the season. He taught how you can add more I to your DW. He also broken down his passing attack.
Cox- This was worth the money no question. He was hands down a great speaker and his presentation was great. His pistol/Cowboy open some eyes and his passing out of it was hands down very good. What Coach Cox showed is that you stay true to your system, but he's just offering you another option within your system. Almost every coach talked with Cox and it look like it will be more pistol or cowboy being added to some systems this up coming season. Then his presentation with his pulling and o-line work was very good. This is when JJ Lawson's son dump me on the floor a few times doing drills. (I got him good with a few swim moves so I guess I got even with him. LOL) To be able to sit with him and talk also was great. (With all of the coaches as well)
Overall it was a great event and if I forgot something or someone it'n not personal at all. Just in a rush to just tell you all about the event and what was covered. Thanks JJ for your work and I hope to see you all again soon. Doing the show is a gift...but to get to sit with guys that listen and used the content that was shared made me smile. It was worth every penny to go to this event and eat dinner/lunch with guys that listen to the show. I felt like MJ when I walked in. LOL All of the coaches were helpful, nice, and very thankful of the work that have been done on the show.
